every firmaware has EDGE, you just need the setting for EDGE form your provider. for Cingular I guess the settings are allready written in the customize.xml, the others don't.
How do you know EDGE is enable or not?
I think, it's up to custom pack (configuration of the phone). If you use provider cingular, you choose use custom pack of cingular with any firmwares.
You can't activate only EDGE, if you have the mobile internet package activated for you SIM card then you should have GPRS or EDGE, depending what coverage do prvider has. I have the mobile internet activated, in the city I live I have GPRS and EDGE (3G too, but the phone doesn't support it, W810i) and I allways connect with EDGE. The phone detects the fastest internet connection and uses that one, once i left to another city that has only GPRS coverage and the detected that and used that connection. so there are no specific settings for EDGE. The phone detects and uses the best connection avaible. U can only choose between GPRS or APN connection and the difference is in the mode you pay for them (GPRS/EDGE is taxed by the quantity of the data transfer and APN is taxed by the time u are connected) I hope this explains some things.
Edge isnt available everywhere, u mainly get it in city centres and busy places.
but if edge isnt available, then u have to pay a bigger amount of money!
i was wonderin about this too, because wen i customized my w810 FS, i looked at the customize.xml and all it talked about for internet profiles was oi gprs? but my phone always shows the EDGE available icon. do you think my phone still automatically uses that? i'm cingular.
