como tengo que configurar este parte del .ini para tener una imagen de fondo; yo uso el sleepmode 1.17

esta bien asi o tendria que modificar otra cosa porque no me sale el fondo que lo puse...como es eso del custom mode y custom time

Creo que el que te deja poner imagenes es el 1.18 (sin necesidad de patch) pero igual recuerda que en esa ruta debes poner las imagenes con el nombre exacto con la extension .png y deben ser 176x220 para que funcionen
