Firmware of different phones

I've been reading the forum for the past couple of days and have a question I couldn't find answer to.

Is there a difference between same firmwares of different phones? (such as R6BC002_RED52 of S500 and R6BC002_RED52 of W580)

Yes, but most of times firmwares are also hardware related, so be carefull, because too different firmware can blow your phone.
