Ah.. that explains why the menu speed improved with the latest update (R8BE001). The Java version was upgraded in the last release.

If the phone itself is based on Java, then why do java applications take so long to load? It seems like it opens a JRE first, just like on a PC.
I thought that Java needed an Operating System to run in?

The 'normal' SE phones are running an OS called Enea OSE, what is a realtime OS, and it is NOT java based. Yes, they have 'installed' the j2me(Java 2 Platform Micro Edition), but nothing more.
