Disabling smilies in text messages?

Is there a way of turning smilies off so that it only shows the ASCII? I dislike them. Can you do this with any SE phone? More specifically the model I have is a k850i, so flashing probably wouldn't be possible. Why doesn't SE just add an option to disable them? Either that or I'm blind..

I dont think there is an option to just disable them or delete them while on the phone. But you mite be able to go on a program like XS++ or something like that and go in to the phone and delete the smilies ???
