    you can put .gif files as menu icons..but the icons lack a transparent background (as .gif does not support transparency) an hence will luk good only owith the default theme provided with the menu..(if any)..and well..smooth transitions from one menu icon to the other is'nt there..although it is theoretically possible..i haven't seen a gif menu with smooth transitions..:)

    Hey man, Compuserve GIF (as it's called in Photoshop) supports transparency.
