Having seen it splashed on the SE websote, I was ready to put my hand in my pocket and buy one, but it looks like its not going to be available for quite some time.

Looks like Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS, the newer version.

Current rumours doing the rounds are that it's slated for a late Q2 2008 release. Operating system is definetely Windows Mobile, but no one (except HTC/SE) knows what version it will be. Another rumour is that it will have a graphics processor made by NVidia which will apparently drive the mobile display like no other.

The only other thing that concerns me is.. what's the battery life going to be like?!
