    Help: w580i question about gprs/edge

    Ok i have att
i debranded my phone on wonton

when i first got the phone (before flashing) by the signal bar it had a "G" after the debranding/flashing now it displays an "E"

I looked around for what these ment all i really know is gprs and edge.. i dont know the difference.

somewhere i read that while talking on the phone wise u got better signal for the talking... on the gprs..

would some kind person explain this a little to me
whats the difference, why does it now say E instead of G, which is better?

for a non internet user that just does talking, text msg, and rarely a picture msg what settings would be best?

As far as I know, Edge is enhanced GPRS so Edge should be better and faster.

You can read about both here: GSM World - GSM Technology

it could be that the provider only wants your phone on GPRS instead of the Edge technology b'cos it uses more resourses which they are trying to avoid? the same thing happen after i debrand my Digicel

on rogers w580 try switching in settings/connectivity/data communications/preferred service/ switch from PS snd CS to just CS only, and see if that changes anything.
