Sony Ericsson Radio: Why FM only and not AM/FM Radio?

I'm still wondering why mobile phones and MP4 players only have FM and no AM Radio? Why is that so? I don't listen to FM radio at all. And AM stations are much better since they offer a variety of informations and entertainments plus the fact that AM Radios have wider area of coverage. Any comments, anyone?

AM Radio signals might interfere with rf signals of mobiles and reduce the quality of call, may be this is the reason.

Also AM has another kind of antenna. It is Ferite antenna, and with FM it (almost) does not matter how you carry the phone. With AM instead, the ferrite antenna must be kept in a direction to receive. You probably know that too. But, I think there is no space in the phone to store such an antenna.

Would be funny though seeing a K800 with a old car antenna sticking out the side pointing at the sky

I'm not sure. The radios that I saw doesn't need an antenna to receive a transmission from an AM broadcast while FM needs it and position it properly to receive a clear reception.

smallest AM receiver (only RF part )is the half size of K800-FM size is about a coin.
