Alot of the Sony Ericsson phones provided for NTT DoCoMo are unlockable and are only in japan because they use either UMTS 2100Mhz or HSDPA 2100.

Currently there's a couple models from NTT DoCoMo (Sony Ericsson) phones that can be used outside of Japan with Inex Hypersim or PSS-SIM hack. I don't think PSS-SIM hack is even that great because it's an adhesive that you stick on your SIM or USIM and once you have that PSS-SIM applied to your SIM you can only use the phone that PSS_SIM was built for. I've tried adding a PSS-SIM to my SIM and then use it in my unlocked phone and the phone has failed to read the sim card.

It will be awhile before Sony Ericsson even comes up with unlock codes for these great devices that are made only for NTT DoCoMo. Anything coming out of Japan rarely has an unlock code. They had passed some law making unlocking impossible anyways (way to ruin the fun). Atleast before SoftBank took over Vodafone Japan it was still possible to unlock phones. Now it's just harder.

A minor note about the PSS-SIM is that you have to take a hole puncher and punch half a hole in the side of your SIM card so the IC chip from the PSS-SIM will fit right. It won't mess with the phone when you're putting the battery door back on but it just needs that so it can function properly. I assume if you rip the PSS-SIM off your SIM card then it might destroy your SIM/USIM altogether.
