W580i debrand

Ok here we go,

This is what I have. A sony ericsson W580i which i assume is the same as the W580. I live in Canada and my service provider is Rogers. I did the step mentioned in another thread in order to see which firmware is on my phone press on the phone keyboard :
>*<<*<*, then go to "service info" then "software info" and came up with all type of info - some long codes nbr did mention DB2020_HB106...etc. I think this is useful.(I did write down all the rest of the software info).

Alright here is the low down. I would like to have access to my personal menus and the ability to delete Rogers "junk" files, ringtones etc. I can not because they are protected. I would like to be able to set any mp3 as ringtone and not be blocked. I believe from what i read all i need is to debrand and not unlock-Could be wrong. I have read so much that my head is spinning but would love some help. I've seen some end products and they look awesome.

Well your right. If all your wanting to do is have your w580 (which is just our lazy way of writing w580i, and if it ended in 'c' it just implies its for china) to have all the aditional features and a lot less of those "junk" files as you called them, you just need to debrand it. If for any reason in the future you decided to switch phone carriers to someone else, then you would need to unlock it in order to be able to use your w580 with the other carrier. For the debranding you can follow this guide to flash a new firmware onto your phone. Just make sure you use a GENERIC_MAIN and you can go here to get an idea of what languages each FS contains, just make sure that the MAIN and the FS are the same firmware version.

debranding dosent need unlocking right? and im guessing it voids warranty right? not that i care lol, i used to have motorola fones..a pro at hacking that thing..SE is wayy too new for me..still leraning where everything is..since i onli had the fone for a couple days now lol...rogers packed this thing with soo much junk..i hate their musik player and their sound an jus rogers itself lmaoo..but if i debrand it...am i still able to get the firmwares from sony through their updater service thing?

I would on your place make a full flash ( main, filesystem and custom file ) and yes you can still update via SEUS. But if you want download anything from TopSony read first this:

Never once did i click on a file to download, did a whole bunch of reading and research and never came up with this 2 mths wait period until 2 seconds ago when i went to download firmware.

Important!You need to unlock only when u meddle with gdfs file system of your phone which is specific for your phone exclusively. If u want to do anything to your phone back up gdfs in xss++ flash software, keep it in safe file by giving it a file name so that it is easily identified by u. you may need it when some thing goes wrong. just watch out tutorials from justme, topsony,tanzeel and others. if u dont read and flash straight away u will brick equivalent phone and dont blame anybody for your costliest phone paper weight. I am already suffering now as i did not backup gdfs. Do it cautiously what ever u do. Just read posts befor posting! many solutions!

but if you can still update from sony updating service thing...then wouldnt that mean the warranty is still there :S lol at least from sony? lol...

But he wants get rid of this Rogers stuff. This can he only by flashing his phone, because SEUS updates by firmware some bugs. SEUS doesn`t debrand your phone.

thx for the heads up. and yah my back up gdfs in xss++ is already done. Theorically i guess whatever i do if something goes wrong i can reload the old software/gdfs which i assume will have all my Rogers info. I wounder if when i flash i will loose some Rogers capabilities. I read some thread where someone said they can no longer picture message. Seems kind of odd to me. You would think that with a few settings you could be back at it.

Can't wait till my 2mths are up! Looking forward to flashing/debranding!!!

Yes, all you need is the mms profile and the internet settings and you'll be able to picture message again.
