I'll tell you what to do, there are tutorials on how to do it, just search them and read the carefully.
First thing to do is back-up your GDFS
Second, you need to flash the phone, here are the files you need:

the drivers are to be chosen by preference, there is no best driver, is based on what you like better. for internet settings go to SonyEricsson home site and search for automatic settings. for unlocking you can do it with a patch in 10-15 sec.
flash menus are nice and much better looking, there are plenty on this site.

I can't start writing you tutorials or tell you step by step what to do, I'm sorry, there would be very much to write, just search cuz you'll find everything.

1.Do I need to buy a cable? If so, which one? All I have is the stock DCU-60/

2. Do I need to unlock all 4 locks or is the network lock sufficient?

3. I know nothing about drivers. Angelica wants good sound and a good camera. I have read that there are many upgrades. I understand that it is personal preference but I don't know enough to have a preference! What are good upgrades that most people use?

1.No you dont.
2.You can patch the phone with the unlocking patch and it will be unlocked.you won't need to do anything else.
3.You can find a lot of drivers...For camera,i suggest you Kriomag,for sound,do not know..

DCU-60 is all you need

apply the remove sim-lock patch and it will work in any network

for cam drivers I use the default ones that come with the firmware, for sound drivers I use these ones in the attachment, I hope this file isn't in the download area, I didn't see it :)
