Unlock and Reprogram help for SE W810i

I am totally new to phones. For me, a phone is smething to make a call on, hopefully as seldom as possible. This phone is for my daughter and I must unlock it, unbrand it, reprogram it, and send it to across the US before she leaves to go back to Canada after Christmas. I am looking for the FASTEST method, not the cheapest. I have only the DCU-60 cable that came with the phone. The phone is locked and branded to Cingular.

I read the phone with XS++ v3.1; here is what I got:

I don't understand why it says the phone has a DB2010 platform when most threads seem to indicate that this phone has a DB2020 platform.

My daughter, of course, wants the prettiest best phone possible. Does anyone have suggestions for audio and camera software, as well as menu replacements? Does flash menu add significently? What should I put on it? How do I get the best camera and best sounding audio?

Any help will be appreciated. I bought download access so I can download anything here.

I'll tell you what to do, there are tutorials on how to do it, just search them and read the carefully.
First thing to do is back-up your GDFS
Second, you need to flash the phone, here are the files you need:
Custom files: Downloads - w810custpack - W810_CDA102555_106_R2A_Generic_AMERICA_1 - Top Sony Forums

the drivers are to be chosen by preference, there is no best driver, is based on what you like better. for internet settings go to SonyEricsson home site and search for automatic settings. for unlocking you can do it with a patch in 10-15 sec.
flash menus are nice and much better looking, there are plenty on this site.

I can't start writing you tutorials or tell you step by step what to do, I'm sorry, there would be very much to write, just search cuz you'll find everything.

3. I know nothing about drivers. Angelica wants good sound and a good camera. I have read that there are many upgrades. I understand that it is personal preference but I don't know enough to have a preference! What are good upgrades that most people use?

1.No you dont.
2.You can patch the phone with the unlocking patch and it will be unlocked.you won't need to do anything else.
3.You can find a lot of drivers...For camera,i suggest you Kriomag,for sound,do not know..

DCU-60 is all you need

apply the remove sim-lock patch and it will work in any network

for cam drivers I use the default ones that come with the firmware, for sound drivers I use these ones in the attachment, I hope this file isn't in the download area, I didn't see it :)

In Tutorials & Guides section you will find almost everything you need, but I will help you a little.;)
1. First full charge the phone's battery.
2. Flashing: XS++ 2.x Guide. Use those files linked by Khaba.
3. Unlocking by patch with SETool2 Lite (download from here: Setool2Lite_v1.08): How to apply patchs with Se Tool 2 Lite. Use the Remove_SIM_lock_W810_R4EA031.vkp file from attachment. If you will use in future another firmware version, you can generate a new unlock patch with Remove SIM-lock patch generator.
4. Addflash menus: Flash Menu Tutorial For All Mobile

No need to buy any cable, the DCU-60 cable is good.

Don't worry about locks. The patch unlocking will do the job.

Well, good question... I can't give you an exact answer, sorry. You need to experiment with several drivers to find the right one for you.

what XS are you using? it shouldn't take longer than 15-20 min. I flash my W810i in aprox that time, with SeTool it should be ready in 10 min tops, let it finish

The computer crashed, bricked my phone, then I started over and now it's going quite fast.

GAWD DAM!!!! THE FRIGGIN THING WORKED!!!! First time too, not counting the crash and the brick.....

Now to unlock......

OK I unlocked the phone... Didn't brick it... The only sim I have is one from a NET10 prepay phone. When I put that SIM in it says "Inactive SIM." Should I be worried?

to check if the phone is unlocked press *<**< (* meaning * and < meaning directional key left) a menu will show with

Network -------- locked/unlocked
Network subnet - unlocked
SP ------------- unlocked
Corporate ------ unlocked

and a lock to each one, if Network is unlocked then the phone is unlocked.

I hope you did a GDFS back-up, it's really important.
