The blinking red light is caused by two problems:
1. The battery is completely discharged. You need to recharge it with other phone(because your phone cannot do that right now). Or put another SE phone's battery to your phone. No need to be the same model. If the battery can be put to your phone then it is okay, and it will work...

2. The EROM is damaged. In this case check this tutorial: REPAIRING EROM GUIDES for most sonyericsson phones

I've found another firmware
W880_R1KG001_FS_EUROPE_4_RED52.fbn
W880_R1KG001_MAIN_GENERIC_RED52.mbn
I tried the guide, but the W880i still remains locked and branded (as told by SEtool 2 Lite) but it seems to accept the new sim card and I can't come into the phone and it tells that there are faults in the configuration, contact bla bla ... I'll try to flash it again

First my k610i was branded by 3 now unbranded and back to sony spec.trying to unlock fone went through process all went well till i powered fone up it says configuration error contact my netwaork support?any ideas cheers

i have samme issue now ... :S reflashed ... didn't help

You need to upload a custom pack too, otherwise you get the "configuration error".

what is a custom pack?
is it W880_R1KG001_FS_EUROPE_4_RED52.fbn?

never mind, have found out, but don't know where to look for the custom pack for the firmware i've installed... :S
