Remove SIM-lock patch generator

hi all im not sure if this is the right place to post but i`ll try anyway...i gotta old k800i i want unlocking...its on the 3 network (sigh)
is it at all possible to unlock it ...just rang 3 and they said they sent me a code for £15
i cant afford to pay that..i think its ridicolous...is there a noob guide to teach me how to do it step by step?
any help would be appreciated big time.... thanks

iv downloaded everything it says in post 1,try to get my phones info in XS++ but says cant open phone communication port..iv installed the flash driver and everything,just want connect...its XS++ v3.2 also,any ideas please? thanks

iv got setool lite 1.11 also but the guide on first page says i need to find out some details using xs++ first?

iv managed to connect now..but all it says it baseband ID: 9900 and protocol version 3.1 ...any ideas please? thank you

yes i do phil.. its a k800i..installed flash driver in windows/systems 32/drivers

thanks for pointing me in right direction,if only i could find out the details of the phone i can move onto next step in tutorial :)...im not giving up yet lol i rang 3(network provider) they said they will give me the code to unlock it for £15...im currently using a lg viewty and this k800i is off an old contract i had with 3,,i thought they woulda unlocked it for free seeing as its my phone..i told em i want be renewing my contract with them cause iv been loyal for 4 years and they want even give me a code to unlock it even tho its my old phone...im never going to 3 again
