Confirmation of findings - Unlocking K790a

Hello,

I have been trying my best to read through all of the information available on the forum and on the web to find out if and how I can unlock my SE K790a, which is currently locked to Rogers(I am located in Canada).

I have seen some conflicting posts, and have also poked around online to find out the status of being able to unlock a CID52 SE K790a.

From what I have gathered at TopSony.com, it seems that software unlocking a CID52 SE K790a is not possible, but can be software unlocked by applying a patch.

I have already obtained most of the mentioned softwares mentioned in this forum, and also have a bunch of phone specific files. I have also backed up my GDFS, and kept it in a safe place :).

I was heavily into unlocking many years ago when I had my SE T637 and have recently (1.5 weeks ago) obtained a new SE K790a, and would very much like to unlock it.


Can someone please confirm my findings(highlighted in blue above) regarding unlocking my Rogers locked K790a?

Is what is highlighted in blue above true???

I don't want to waste thread space with foolish questions...

Any information would be greatly appreciated. :)

I already saw it and have downloaded it a few weeks ago.

However, I am very weary of trying out a software without any known references, or instructions.

Without plugging my K790a into my computer, I tried to start the program to look at what is presented etc.

I received a "fatal error" that the software could not be started.

Log file shows:

12/4/2007 11:22:18 PM Severe error 8010001D,program terminated

Software shows:

"Infernal Error: Protection Card error (8010001D)"

I will assume this software is related to SETool based on the name of the file: (Setool2g.exe).

As far as I can understand from what the author wrote, to unlock my K790a, would I only need to provide a new MAIN file?

(What is a MAIN file file extension??? )

Also, can you please confirm the usage of this software?

Example: to unlock my K790a should I.....

1. Charge my K790a battery fully, and take out the SIM card.
2. With the K790 off, plug it into my computer.
3. Start the software.
4. Hope the software will start, specify a MAIN file, and follow the rest of the instructions found in the link you sent me.

I am under the impression or assuming/hoping that this software will only "work" while the phone is plugged in.

I have been using XS++/SEToolLite with my phone so far, and as such have no experience with the provided software.

Also, on a slight tangent:

Do you know of any BAD SIDE-EFFECTS of using an UNLOCKING patch? (IE. cannot use SEUS or SEUS causes phone to do stuff you don't want it to do type of thing?)

I recall some forum members reporting SEUS update failures after applying a patch etc. :(

Look here for meaning for main file.

On all other questions i don`t have answer. I did look for unlocking, but i found only non free versionen ( davinci ... ).

1) these free tools cant unlock ur phone you need setool software with dongle.
2) if u update ur patch unlocked phone on SEUS then it will be locked again, simple !

So is this what I would have to do to apply an unlocking patch to my SE K790a?

After the confirmations by Syed, my final question now basically revolves around the usage of the software linked above by jasmin.

I have not seen any references to what it is (I'm assuming its some SETool derivative based on its name - Setool2g.exe).

Is my suggested quote above a "feasible" way to use the software??
