Successful Debranding W580i

I am brand new to debranding and all this. I live in Canada and I am with Rogers. I know that I want to debrand it but I am really nervous I am going to screw up. I dont understand what xs++ is or any of the other terms. Can someone please lead me in the right direction and tell me exactly what I need to do? I have seen some of the tuts but then I see these codes with them and it confuses me even more!! lol
I see some of these posts are from the end of last year, I hope some people can still help me!

Ok, I'm a total noob at this, but am trying very hard to learn. I've been reading for the last few hours at least, trying to understand how everything works.

Can someone answer a few questions I have? I also have a W580i, with Rogers, and am located in Canada.

The first step I want to do is unlock the phone.

Now if I understand correctly, you can use the XS program, the the SEToolite program?

I've downloaded both...

And how do you determine which files you need to flash onto your phone? If I am reading this right, I only need a version of firmware to debrand the phone? And where can you find the correct firmware? I know there is a bunch located on the download section of this site, but having this junk on my phone for 2 months while waiting to be accepted to the download section is out of the question... I'm a little impatient that way.

Are the USB drivers for the phone already installed on the computer? I know when I connected my phone to my computer for the first time, it installed a ton of drivers...

Thanks for any help, I'm sick of all this Rogers crap on my phone and want it gone... The next step would be to unlock the phone, but I want to debrand first.

What are some of the gains of unlocking the phone? Is internet connection one of them? It'd be sweet to surf the net for free via the phone.

FYI, I'm w/ rogers too. But I used se tool 2 lite v1.11. i think it's easier and the guides are very detailed. takes like 30 mins to flash and unlock. just make sure you have the following:

- se tool 2 lite v1.11 (install the drivers first)
- you need 3 files, the FS, Main and CDAfirmware example: R8BE001 is the lastest firmware
W580_CDA102568_107_R8A_GENERIC_AMERICA_2.zip
W580_R8BE001_FS_AMERICA_2_RED52.fbn
W580_R8BE001_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52.mbn
*if you can't afford to pay to download, i'd suggest you use google. it's your best resource!
- SIM-lock patch generator (if you want to unlock)

how to (follow the instructions carefully):
flash: Flash your phone and How to apply or remove patch using SETool 2 Lite - Top Sony Forums
unlock: Remove SIM-lock patch generator - Top Sony Forums

Note: when it says drag the file over the application icon, it's exactly as stated. literally have 2 windows explorer sessions open. 1) with the file 2) the other w/ the applcation. then drag the file from 1 to 2, like you would copy a file, but drop it over the 'qamaker.exe' icon. it produces a vpk file, used to unlock.

I hope you weren't an eager person and did the SE service update. Cuz if you updated to CID 53 then you can forget everything i said above. your screwed, at least for now.

I am researching unlocking and debranding my at&t w580i and am looking for this file: W580_CDA102568_107_R8A_GENERIC_AMERICA_2.zip
but all I have been able to get is the Asia file.
I think that is the one you said you used.
Where can I get it?
