When ppl try to unlock their phone thru a server, (eg Davinci Team) Is it always involved phone information like IMEI? What risk does it involve?

i used dvt to de-brand,but the costs for cid52 unlocking seem a bit much at the moment.:(

ive seen imei numbers posted on some forums in log files,its not recommended to show your imei no.

but im not sure the real reason ,i guess it could be used on some other phone
