    Issue in debranding

    Hi
I debranded my w580i using XS++2.0 and the files
    W580_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52
    W580_R6BC002_FS_AMERICA_1_RED52

    I followed the instructions on Tutorial | Flashing/GDFS-operations/Uploading files with XS++ - SE-NSE Forums

    everything went fine.

When i started the phone it started fine , showed sony ericsson logo but then said Insert chip. It is somehow not accepting my sim.

    What could be possibly wrong.

I had backed up GDFS before flashing can it help in someway.

Am i totally screwed or is there some way out.

I think that you had unlocked phone by a patch by your service provider, but wenn you flashed it , locked the phone. You must unlock it again.

Look in the unlocking forum at top sony.

    Nice day

It can be debranded, it's just that it locked up again because the unlock was patched on the previous firmware, but not full unlock. It's really difficult to unlock for free, but there are services out there that allow you to unlock for a small fee. Might try looking up IMEI unlocking, or even try looking up DaVinci team as they provide unlocking as well.

    thanks :)

i would now go for unlocking , but i want to be sure that its the issue with lock and not something else . is thr a way i can do that

i would also like to highlight that i could not flash the custom pack on the phone (which everyone debranding the phone seemed to do) ...i guess not doing it won't be the reason for sim not working

To find out if the phone is locked, press the following key combination on the phone while its turned on. It doesnt matter what menu you are currently at.
Left, * button, * button, left.
This will bring up the menu where it shows what you have locked. It is the same menu where you enter the IMEI unlocked code if you can find it.

As to the customization, I believe you need that so the phone knows what languages to use within it. I don't think the phone will work properly without the customization, but I could be wrong. But you should have flashed 3 files (firmware, fs, and customization).

it is recommended that you remove your sim card and your memory card before you flash. I hope you did that because you might have screwed up your sim card.

i just checked my w580i with the check and it said

:Personalized with MNC3.. (what does that mean>?)

    then the menu options were:
    Network: (locked)
    Network subset: (unlocked)
    SP: (unlocked)
    Corporate: (unlocked)

Basically it means that your phone is locked (Network: locked). You need to get it unlocked if you plan to use with any other SIM card other than your current provider.
