debranding and unlocking are two different issues
you can debrand your phone easily with one of the flashing programs such as FAR, SETool, etc...
but if you want to unlock the phone, it'll cost $ for the service such as Wotan Server, SEKing, etc...

Unlocking does not void warranty in some phone service.
You can ask the phone service to unlock your phone.

it doesnt void your warranty since youre merely putting the phone to the state that SE intended it to be. If your servicve provider doesnt honour your warranty then send it to Kuhne And Nagel who are SE official phone servicers. Or take it to a SE service centre. Or deny all knowledge of messing with your handset.

It doesnot void warranty? I always thought it would! That's why i waited for a year!..lol.. its cool though.
Can anyone around here tell me how much cheaper is a locked phone than an unlockd one? A retail unlocked W580i here is about 300$ i guess.. how much is a locked one?

You will sure void warranty if you do anything with firmware, so wait till u are out of warranty, any changes made to phone software will void warranty, and if u face problems with phone, contact your nearest sony ericsson service center they will correct your phone, and that is better. Enjoy retail version as it is and study tutorials in top sony and share phone related isssues.

Here in Holland ( at least that's what i've been told) unlocking doesn't void warranty..

But the moment that you debrand your phone and/or break it while flashing, then you can say bye-bye to your warranty...

And about the prices, in wich country are you talking about?

Here in Holland no company is fulling around and putting high-featured phones with prepay simock to sell...thousands of little gsm-shops over here unlock almost evry SE phone for 10 euros or less...

I think you lose your warranty because: when you flash your phone, you automaticly lose your warranty

    Good luck!

    How about this..

First check actual software version (it can be found in the menu of the phone) then take a look here:

    Downloads - W580 - Top Sony Forums

and locate your serial then enter and search for your branded firmware. Next you can download files wich are needed four a backup in case you need warranty return (thats MAIN, FS and CDA), so in case you'll need to return the phone, flash it with those firmware.

Then locate latest firmware and debrand it.

You can then play with the software, BUT remember to back up GDFS first time because it's unique to every phone.
If you want to pay for unlock then contact one dedicated server.

Here someone more experienced could tell if in case of returning it is posible to lock the phone again so the store never tell if it was unlocked.:)

Yes it breaks the warranty. The quickest way to debrand it is to use XS++. It's the safest and quickest. But be sure to back up your GDFS before you do ANYTHING. This might help.
