    disable camera lens slider activation?

i have a d750i which i've flashed to a w800, and it's great - big improvement from my previous phone (a t610, which i loved for ages too). i got this fone from my brother (who got it from a friend), who had never been able to use it cos he couldn't sim-unlock it. so i got it, and w800-ed it :)

problem is, the slider for the camera lens cover is really sensitive - i just need to be holding the phone and pressing buttons as normal, and the camera activates. i thought at first i was pressing the camera button at the side, but i realised it was cos i was slightly moving the lens cover slider switch thingy.

anyone know if it's possible to deactivate that, so that the camera doesn't activate when the slider is slid open? i've checked through all the menus, and can't see anything, so i'm guessing it would have to be some kind of firmware modification...

Not possible to disable this trough software...I would have taken of the back cover checked the moving parts who activates the camera, also check the microswitch, can have been moved little out of position..Must be some mechanical problem..If you want to permanently disable this, and only use the side button to activate the camera, you have to remove the microswitch..
    You wont do that.?..

hmmm.... maybe, but maybe not :)

this is pretty disappointing though - i was hoping there would be a known way to do this through a firmware mod. i guess it must be possible to, but the amount of work would be involved may be too much, and i certainly don't have the talent to even start looking at it. for all i know, it may require a complete re-write of the firmware...

guess i'll have to see how long i can live with it until i rip it open and see if i can kill that microswitch :)

you can run a multimeter across the switch. see if it is shorted when the camera is closed. if it is you can solder a cable to permenently short it out.
if it is not you have to remove the switch

There is a patch to disable microswitch. After this patch you will able switch camera on only from phone menu. Patch is in download section of TOPSONY.

Hi Pichu, thanks for your reply. I am unable to find the patch you are referring to, despite searching manually and also using the "search" function. could you tell me what section this patch is in, and what it's called?

n.b. - i am using firmware r1aa008, so if the patch is available for that firmware, it would be the most appropriate.

    thanks.

Another simple suggestion is to get a Crystal case for your phone, this will make it harder to simply bump the camera slider, or other is to buy a new housing that has a stiffer slider mechanism.

    Hope this helps.
