yes it matters...different phone and firmware needs compatible patches...

You might consider the fact that these patches are not always good enough.
It is better to use updates signed by Sony Ericsson, than to use anonymous patches that can damage your phone for good.
If you want to modify sound and camera drivers, consider not to do it because they are optimized to work specifically with you phone. I you really must, better replace/change the drivers with original ones when they are updated by Sony Ericsson engineers.
Beside that, just to be on the safe side you can do the following:
- replace startup and shutdown images and sounds
- replace the original fonts if you don't like it with other compatible fonts
- change the icons of the menu with other that suits you needs
- put your creative abilities to work to create some cool thems for you phone using SE Theme Creator.

yes,it matters..i heard that some ppl aplied patches which was not designed for their firmware and their phones ..let's say wasn't good..

As i've said before, if you don't fully undestand how those pathches are made and what exactly they change in your phone it's not a good ideea to use them.
Still you can use custom packs containing detailed instructions about installation and changes made.
