Yes you can do that, it not that hard as both have exactly similar hardware. Look into following tutorial,

that's wrong, they don't have the same hardware. the 580 has a fm radio and a sensor both for shake control and the fitness application. i guess, modifying the S500 hardware to w580 is not reasonable, just buy a w580 :)
the 580 soft is running on the 500, just search for the tut in this marvellous forum...

I have made the flashing i'm not a noob!!!
Ok i aggry with fitness and shake control but not with radio because it sais when you open the app to connect handsfree!!!
