I think you're talking about the Auto focus illuminator - its light helps the camera focus in poor light conditions. So it is very probable that without it the camera just won't adjust the focus well and the photo will be blured.
Anyway if you want, you can try to stick something on that light, for example a little piece of black sellotape:D That's the only thing possible I think;)

You can always set the focus to infinite using the 4 key. This way the AutoFocus Illuminator will be turned off, but the picture won't be sharp if you point your camera at something close to you.
