W580i --> Debranding --> XS++ : help topic !! need tutorial

yea, play it safe and do all 3 files, i tried doing just the custom pack and my phone refused to turn on until i put in the FS and flash as well.... i tried another custom pack with a different region but same code (R8A) and it worked without re-flashing the same flash and FS..
if you do all three, all the rogers branding will be gone... mp3 ringtones will be enabled... as will flash menus... but the shutter tone will stay... not sure why... maybe somebody can help me get rid of that too...

So I just need a custom pack I guess? Any suggestions on which firm ware to use R6 or R8?

I think as of R8 and on java 7.7 is used... so if u use alot of java use the R8 one... also the two packs (FS's) will have different language packs.... really its up to you.... there's no harm in flashing one and then trying the other though... =)

From what I've read, your phone will remain unlocked if you debrand. Supposively the shortcut key to medianet is also disabled.

Look if your phone is unlocked by a patch, then debranding will lock it again, but if your phone is full unlocked, then it will not locked again.

Ok; I've read this thread and several others trying to understand all this....obviously I'm a newbe here. I have an AT&T branded w580i that I just got. I ran into problems trying to get Libres eBook reader to work since i need to give it permission to read and write and the phone would not let me do so. After talking to both AT&T and Sony the best they could do was to give me the unlock code. I unlocked the phone but that did not fix it. So it looks like I will have to debrand the thing and this tutoral is a big help. I just have one question: Will unbranding cause problems with my AT&T service? I mean, will I still be able to use the phone like I can now while it is branded? Or will debranding screw up my ability to use my phone service through AT&T. Thanks for an help one can provide.

I'm also concerned about this... obviously the phone should still function like normal, but what about web browsing and text messaging? Does anyone else have Rogers and can tell me if there are any side effects to debranding?

I'm a newbie too, I have yet to debrand my phone, since its CID53. So far what I've learned about debranding is that it removes all the crap AT&T puts on it(mostly links to AT&T websites and medianet and AT&T startup/shutdown logos). And it will replace it with generic non-branded menu/applications and it also removes any restrictions that have been put on by AT&T. (same for all other service providers).
