K770i on 3 Mobile - Debrand, flash Unlock etc

    Hi everybody,
Found this forum today and it looks like you guys might be able to help me.

I have a K770i on 3 in the UK. The phone is a nightmare, everything is locked out and now it goes on the internet all the time. Anytime I try to do anything on the phone, making a call, during a call, writing a text it launches the web browser. I've tried a master reset but it made no difference.

I wanted to try and get it back to a normal, unbranded, plain old K770i. I have browsed and searched the forums here and read about XS++. It all seems wonderful but I think you're used to dealing with people who have a little more background knowledge in this area than I do. My questions are this:

    1. Is it better to use XS++ or SEUS, or does it not matter? If SEUS, are there tutorials on this forum for it?

    2. Which firmware do I download? I can see them all in the download section but they are all named with codes. Is there an explanation of these codes anywhere?

    3. I saw in the tutorial for XS++ it states:
    Supported phones:

    DB2000: CID36, CID49 <---needs bruteforcing
    DB2010: CID36, CID49
    DB2020: CID49, CID51, CID52

I read in the definitions what these mean but how does it relate to the K770i? For example, how do I know which protection is present on the K770i? How do I know which SEMC it has?

Sorry for all the questions but I am brand new to debranding/flashing phones and want to understand how it works.

    Thanks for any pointers

    Difference between SEUS and XS++:
XS++ replaces the whole firmware if you upload the files (which implements the fact that all your personal data will be lost, you'll have to create a backup or copy your contacts etc. to the memory card) while SEUS just changes some parts.
If the problem is firmware related it's likely that SEUS might not fix it.

You can find the suitable firmware by clicking on "languages description" on the mainpage. This is also stated in my tutorial which you already read ;)

Connect your phone to XS++ to find out your CID.

In short: Read my XS++ tutorial again and take some time to really understand what is written down there. All your questions are answered there (all but the SEUS<->XS++ question).

Hmmm, fallen at the first stage. I downloaded the USB flash drivers from the link (K770 ones) and unzipped them to a folder. I plugged the phone in holding down the C button and pointed Windows to the drivers, everything installed no problem.

When connecting in XS++ though, no joy. Then I saw in XS++ that the phone must be switched off when it is plugged in. So, I did it in that order and this time Windows was looking for something different, SEMC USB Flash driver. When I pointed Windows to the downloaded drivers though, Windows reports that they are no correct and I therefore just get an explanation mark in Device Manager.

Any thoughts as to why this is?

    Wrong Flash-Driver.

Try this package. (just click on "weiter" (and in the following windows always the middle button))

    installs all available drivers..

These drivers are the official EMMA drivers so it's quite impossible that they're the wrong ones ;)
You can try the ones Yazoo posted but you'll install a lot of stuff which you don't need.
I'd advise you to try the one I've attached first.

*EDIT* Whoops, should've pressed F5 before posting ;)

    Ok, next 2 questions:

    1. How can I tell what firmware I need? The files are listed as R8AA018_RED52, R8AB001_RED52, etc but how do I know which one is unbranded or branded? What do these codes mean? I understand which region I need thanks to justme for that.

    2. Is there a section for the 770 in the CDA part? I cannot see it there.

    Thanks for the continued help.

    1. R8BC004 is the latest one but you can use any of them. The ones that are branded are called T_Mobile, Vodafone..etc. Pretty self-explanatory and also explained in the tutorial. Unbranded=Generic

    2. Unfortunately there isn't, but you can look it up here:
    Downloads - k770custpack - Top Sony Forums

To anticipate your next question: RxA in the name of the custpacks stands for the revision number, don't get confused about it.
