Can I use a different version of a2 uploader to do it

You can but A2uploader can't apply patches that use space outside the normal cxc size. Better you use FAR and cxc patcher by den_po.

I followed the instructions of the poster because it looks like he says his file is already patched.

Just copied the phone_cxc files into boot of my phone and it doesn't boot now.
