SE K610i to W660i Conversion Guide [ Edited version ]

Okay, recently I converted my SE 610i to W660i using:
Converting K610/K618/V630, Z610 and K530 to W660. Full Guide! - myForum
and was quite happy, BUT

1. The guide is quite messy - you have to read everything three times ...
2. There are few thing that is not noticed in guide.

So, I decided to make linked guide, extract most important and add some additional things to do after general flashing operation.

Before doing this conversation, you must obtain these files:

- Firmware ( also called MAIN ): Download in attachment.
- File System ( also called FS ): Download in attachment.
- Customization Pack ( also called CustPack ): Download in attachment. My region is BALTIC. If you have other - sorry, I cant help you.

TIP #1. Although in almost every guide is said, that you must disconnect your phone from PC afters Elapsed: xx:xx message appearance or XS++ related finalization message, I, paradoxically, am more cautious and disconnect phone AFTER the USB Disconnection Sound has been played in Windows XP. I don't want to say, that others are wrong but I think, that only that sound truly signalizes that there are no more communication between PC and Phone.

After storing them in place where you can access them during conversation procedure,
do following:

- Recommended, but not Required -

WARNING! THE CID IS NOT DOWNGRADE-ABLE, ONCE IT'S UPGRADED THERE'S NO TURNING BACK!
Now, click the GDFS tab then click 'Backup GDFS'.
This will make a backup of your GDFS, which will restore your phone in 90% of cases of a bad flash.

Do not disconnect during "flashing" operations or you may damage your phone!
Only disconnect your phone when XS++ says "Disconnected... Unplug the phone"!

Once the GDFS backup is done, XS++ will disconnect your phone.

1. Flash MAIN, FS and CustPack.

Once you've got the firmware, open the Custpack and extract it (with Folders!) to the own_custpack folder in the XS++ directory.
Make sure that your phone is charged 100%!
Once you've done that open XS++ and then connect your phone.
It should automatically go to the Flash tab.
Tick 'Flash Main Firmware' and browse to the MAIN file. (It should be a .mbn file)
Tick 'Flash File System' and browse to the FS file. (It should be a .fbn file)
Tick 'Customize File System' and in 'Phone Model' select 'Own custpack'

2. Using FSX+, upload K610i display driver, camera driver and power_up_musicmode file(s) to phone.

Now browse to ifs/settings/camera, extract the camdriver0.dat and camdriver1.dat from the ZIP and again place them in the 'Enumerated files' pane.
Now browse to tpa/preset/system/lighteffects/system, extract the power_up_musicmode.ble from the ZIP and drag into the 'Enumerated Files' pane.
Now click 'Shutdown FSX', and when XS++ says to, disconnect your phone.

- Recommended, but not Required -

Now start SEtool2 Lite, select W660 as the phone type and then click 'Read GDFS'.
It will make a copy of your GDFS, like XS++ did, and DO NOT disconnect the phone or press Stop until SEtool says "Elapsed: xx secs."
Disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery then reinsert it.

3. Using SeTool2 Lite Edition, make Quick Access patch to MAIN. After QA patching, apply Illumination Patch.
QA Patch:

Now start SEtool2 Lite, select W660 as the phone type.
Make sure W660 is selected as Phone Type, tick 'Bypass DB2020 security'.
In the files box, click 'Add' and add the MAIN file.
Then in the MISC files box, add the Quick Access patch you generated not long ago.

Illumination Patch:

Now in SEtool2 Lite, make sure W660 is selected as Phone type, uncheck 'Bypass DB2020 security', and check 'Use "quick access" patch', (if it hasn't already) remove the MAIN from the files box, and in the MISC files box, browse to the Illumination Patch you just extracted.

Here is first noticeable thing what was not been wrote to this review.
- There is one patch, witch is added in these reviews files, BUT there is other one, it works too, but it limits you to use only 50 - 60 percent brightness range. It works, as pointed seamonkey.

4. Now, generally, you have W660i, BUT,
Here is second noticeable thing what was not been wrote to this review.
You will understand it, if you would watch on K610i and W660i phone front pictures ( button layout ). As you can see, the left button in the middle of Action Buttons in K610i is Shortcut to WEB Browsers ... but what we have in W660i ??? WE HAVE Shortcut to Walkman!!! Its is hard to understand how could solidsnake204 write guide but forgot about this button issue .. :mad:

So - I don't know how to fix it in the moment ( my first guess is that I must edit Menu.ml file ) of posting this, but Ill try to find it out. If you know already, how to fix this - please - post it!

5. A little testing ...
- The extended_brightness.vkp does not work.
- The keypad_timer.vkp probably works, but I did not see any difference ...

b) ----------- Aditional Part: W660i Compatable mods and files.
- Just copied contacteffects from Modded Lighteffects! - Top Sony Forums to my K610i@W660i. Works Fine ;)

First of all you forgott GDFS backup (need to be done 2 during flashing-1 before flashing with complete W660 firmware and second before applying QA patch with MAIN) and another thing - YES,exist patch for solving illumination and working one you will find here K610i-W660i solved illumination problem - Top Sony Forums

Hm, yes, I'm already using the working Illumination patch, but 60% of maximum brightness makes almost impossible to use phone with action buttons ...

I can almost dare - If someone do this first time and the person NEVER EVER before has been used SE phones, after applying this patch makes phone unusable.

And - still - waiting some specialist / professional answer about that WEB / Walkman shortcut button ...

Okay, after some reasonable critics, extracted GDFS Backups ... although if you do everything right and don't have curvehands.dll installed, than everything should be OK. At least I did not do any backups and no problem with second SE phone witch I mod.

P.S. If you found my Edited guide useful and everything went OK in conversion process, say Thank You. :D I always like to see usage of this quite innovative feature.

Hold on. Please, attach that working patch for K610i@W660i phone, with whom I can set brightness to maximum and use Walkman and other features normally. Two days ago i patched phone with that "newer" one, but with it walkman did not work ..
Currently I am using patch with whom Walkman works only in 50 - 60% brightness range ... it it is simply horrible!

And - yes, I know, that this is normal behavior, but If there is WEB symbol, I want to usi it as web shortcut, not as walkman ... I mean, it p**es me a lot if i press button and does not happen that what I expected to happen ...

To be honest - if there was no WEB/Walkman button issue and the brightness would work in its full functionality, I would say that K610i@W660-i is the best SE Phone EVER made. The price/performance of this mod is simply outstanding.
So - again - should I edit Menu.Ml or what? When I modded SE 510i, there was no additional section for Shortcut button on phones side ...

Oh, I see, I'm only 19 years old and already so blind :D

Hm, man, could you check this Web/Walkman shortcut issue, too? I have a lot of work to do and I don't have free time to do this ... please, do me and others a favor and change that shortcut.
Community would appreciate it ;)

Currently there is not fixed WEB/Walkam shortcut button, but, here es some important time not noticed in solidsnake204 guide:
TIP 2.: After turning off phone for connect it to PC, be sure to REMOVE BATTERY AFTER LAST GREEN UPSIDE INDICATORS BLINK!!! IF YOU WILL NOT WAIT IT AND REMOVE BATTERY TOO FAST, YOU WILL HAVE TO PROCEED WITH Unlock/Repair procedure in SeTool2Lite!!!

The English in this thread is really poor.
So poor in fact that its difficult to understand what you are doing.
It appears that you are trying to flash 660i to be like a w660i.

why would you perform all these steps to achieve this. what do you gain from changing the memory. Is all this for changing 4G to 8G memory ?? Are there more advantages that I have not realised ?
