Help appreciated! White screen after upgrade - how to retrieve data

    Hi there,

I came across this site after searching for a solution for the white screen on my k800i (I know, it's old!). I know there have been some other threads about this but I still don't know what to do - forgive me!

    This is what happened:

    • The initial problem was that the phone wasn't registering any calls so I never knew if I'd had missed calls.
    • It had been ages since upgrading firmware (if at all) so I thought I'd try checking the upgrade on the phone. (I didn't have the usb cable so I tried it this way.) The phone told me I'd need to make space for the download, which I did, and then it said something about it initializing so it would restart and I wouldn't be able to use the phone during that time. If only I'd known what I was doing, I would not have done this, especially not before backing up!! :o
    • Not long after, the screen went white and that was the start of my woes! Now the phone doesn't turn off unless I pull out the battery. When I put it back in and turn on the phone... white screen. No reaction. The only sign of life I've had out of it is when I press C (see next point.)
    • I was able to get a usb cable from a friend and tried connecting the phone. When I press C the phone is detected by the pc (trying on a pc now, not my mac) in the device manager, but that's it. It can't be found on My Computer.
    • I downloaded both the SE PC Suite and the Update Service. The PC Suite sometimes detects the device and then straight after it will say it hasn't. An error pop-up from the pc says that there was an error with the device.
I don't want to try to the Update Service because it says there that the data will be deleted.

I don't care about being able to use the phone as it was time to get a new one anyway, but I am really just hoping I haven't lost all my contacts and text messages. I have an M2 card with photos so I don't care about them, just the messages and contacts. I'd backed up some contacts ages ago onto my mac but alas not my messages or recent contacts.

Does anyone know how I can get my data back??

Everything I've read online seems to talk about how to get the phone working again but in doing so the data will disappear. I've seen lots of things written about flashing and a wotanserver thingy but to be honest, I don't really know what these mean or what I'm meant to do if the main goal is to not lose the data.. :o

I'd appreciate any help or advice.

    Thanks heaps. :)

    Hi Daisygirl,

I have exactly the same problem as you and have been searching in vain for some better news. Have you found any new information on this?
