W850i Flashing Screen

Hi Folks,

My W850i has started playing up...

Sometimes the phone boots up ok (especially if left for 24 hours without battery) but using the phone inevitably leads to it going into a flashing white screen. Sometimes it recovers to show the normal phone screen, but continued attempts to use the phone take it back to the flashing white screen, and eventually the phone just goes black and stops responding altogether. You then have to remove the battery to get any more life from it.

I have read around the WSOD (white screen of death), and thought perhaps the problem is firmware related. I tried the phone on SEUS (sony ericsson update service) and all it does is inform me that the pone has the latest software installed, it does not attempt to overwrite or update anything.

I then thought I would try XS++ to refresh the software on the phone - but I have no idea which version of the firmware to put on there...

XS++ gives me :

XS++ offerred to update my CID to 52 which I declined because I have no idea what that means (and it says it cannot be undone!!!!)

Any advice on where to go next would be gratefully received.

After looking closely at the XS++ info I decided to install W850_R1ED001_FS_EUROPE_2_RED49.fbn.

The Flash seamed to complete succesfully, switching the phone on now results in a couple of vibrations followed by a solid white screen being displayed.

At least it is consistent now

You should flash both MAIN and FS.
After flashing, you must do the customization:

Is the same fbn file used for both the main and fs flash?
Can I do the two flash processes and the customise filesystem in the same run of XS++ run?
For my phone XS++ shows
21:50:27| Region: EUROPE_2

so I am now unclear which drop down to choose in select CD and Region

any ideas????

Use:
W850_R1GB001_MAIN_GENERIC_CY_RED49
W850_R1GB001_FS_EUROPE_2_RED49 and any custpack(usually latest=best).
Yes, you can make customization in the same run.

hi! this is just for incase the successful flash doesnt solve the problem.
Whats very and highly possible is that you will need to replace your top keypad membrane. its seems that there is a bad design in the w850i keypads and they are breaking after a period of use. Im guessing youve had this phone for over 18 months right?

Thanks hyperion17 - with your advice the phone flashed succesfully. Unfortunately it still demonstrates the same problem after starting up. Are you aware of any other software fixes I should try before assuming it is a hardware fault?

Thanks also to Chingy, yes the phone is more than 18 months old - is there any way of proving that the problem is with the keypad?

You must use same custom file like File System.

my SE W850i GOT PROBLEM WITH LCD SCREEN,
AS USUAL, WHEN MY PHONE IN AUTO LOCK, LCD WILL TURN 0FF AND WHEN UNLOCK, THE LCD SCREEN WILL AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON..
BUT AFTER I FLASH IT FROM R1EJ001, TO MAIN VODAFONE (WITHOUT FS) FIRMWARE R1KG001, THE LCD SCREEN WONT TURN ON ANYMORE WHEN UNLOCK... I HAVE TO GO TO BRIGHTNESS SETTING TO MAKE IT ON.. HELP ME!!! HOW TO FIX IT?
