XS++ 4.1 linux not working

I have ubuntu 8.04 lts installed,and have installed xs++ 4.1 beta with all necessary permissions.
When I plug in my phone,it detects the phone and says ready for operation,but when I try to backup the GDFS,it says error:could not create output file.
I dont know how to copy the log,coz iam not comfortable with linux yet:(:(

i've downloaded the linux 4.1 one and when i click on the file named XS++ v4.1 nothing happens...
is anything needed to be typed in the terminal???
i have fedora 8 on my pc....
