k800i dead,red light blinking

It is my friend phone, and this is second time when phone dead, first time he pay for fixing him phone (about 45 Euros in my country - Lithuania). Repairer says him to sell that phone.
P.S. He don't know anything about modding, xs++ and..., maybe this is because he put out battery without turning off phone (insert other SIM), you know that many people don't know about this risk.

And what if battery is 60% of charge?
One more question - you can't repair GDFS for free, so why we need GDFS Backup? I know that is for easier fixing if phone will brick or something like that.
