Firmware version differences

Now I use xs++ 3.1 . When I trie to connect while pressing C, nothing happens.
I found something about pressing buttons 2 and 5 to connect.
What's the difference?
When I do it with those buttons, it does connect, but I get this log file:

And do you think this is the easiest way to add a language or is it more easy to add only the language files?
I suppose text messages etc. will be removed when I flash the phone?
