First of all, have you switch on the phone yet? The power button for w580i is at the topleft corner (a small black button) at the back of the phone.
To switch on the phone, first slide the phone up, then press the power button till you can sense a vibration, and the startup screen should follow. If the startup screen does not show up, then you should get a replacement from the phone seller at NO COST bcoz the new phone is still under warranty.
Pressing the 'C" button is only for flashing, by putting the phone in flash mode, which you dont need to do. If what you want to do is simply connect your phone to the computer, just plug in the USB cable that comes as your phone accesories, with your phone switch on. you need not press the C button for doing this..
Hope this help you to solve your problem :-)

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply,I have tried all u have said for connecting to pc but as i stated the pc suite software tells me the phone is in file transfer mode and i need to select phone mode from the phones menu.Thats a problem as i have a blank screen so cant see to switch modes.I have tried 2 screens in the phone thinking that the fault was a broken screen.Unfortunately the phone is out of warranty so cant get a replacement phone.Someone suggested that if i re flash the firmware the screen would then work so i was trying to do just that but the c button doesn't seem to be working.when i try to connect it with xs++ it just keeps timing out so i am at a loss as to what to try next or is the phone knackered completely.thnx

also the phone can still be used to ring out and everything seems to work except the screen.

    the c button isnt working
It the C key isn't working(hardware problem), then you should take the phone to a service center.
