I Originally tried to use the generic firmware on a Vodafone K800i using XS ++, but it would only allow me to use the vodafone firmware when following the tutorial DB2020.exe

I got round this by using K800_R8BF003_MAIN_GENERIC_WI_RED52.mbn to generate a Remove_SIM_lock_K800_R8BF003.vkp using the SIMLockPatchGen.exe.
Instead of using the unbranding features of XS ++ as described in the tutorial, I just used the 2 files with setool2liteV1.11 to patch the phone.
Basically XS ++ gave me a flashblock error but the settool2lite software can obviously bypass the DB2020 security on the vodafone K800i. Therefore, I would suggest using this method to unbrand the Vodafone firmware and not the XS ++ method in the tutorials.

NOTE: I got a warning when I first turned the phone back on that the menu system may have errors ('Errors occur in the menu.ml file. This may render the menu unusable') but I said OK and it's been working fine.

Also I would still use the XS ++ software to update your EPROM to CID52 & backup the GDFS as described in the tutorial.

I am still getting the menu.ml error message now and again. Anyone know how to fix?

You must do full flash (MAIN,FS and custpack) - they must be same version and after that unlock with main + .vkp

There is a problem with the firmware R8BF003 on K790/K800.
You must use Main R8BF003 CID 52 and FS R8BF003 CID 53
This is the process with setool2lite:
    1. Flash Main CID 52 and apply quick access patch.
    2. Flash FS CID 53 checking the use quick access patch.
    3. Flash your CDA separately without checking the quick access patch.

This link works for CID lower than 53 (52 or less)

For CID 53, you must use Far Manager + JD Flasher
