[SOLVED] Need help with WSOD W600i, understanding how flashing works

I have been reading for two days and still dont understand. I tried using Waton and no luck. I have selite2 and tried to backup GDFS and I dont think it worked. The biggest thing I dont understand is why dont all the files that are associated with my phone, or any phone for that matter have an expalnation as to what it does...it would really help for those who are trying to use them. I have read so much in the last two days that i'm more confused than ever. This topic needs a person to do some tech writing so it can be understood and people will need less help. I am so frustrated that I almost dont even know what to ask.........but I will try. My W600i went into WSOD mode....just as the one my wife had a year ago....put it on ebay after using update from Sony...didn't work! So now this one is doing it. The darn thing would still actually make a call if you manually dialed it and sent but it was nothing but static. So I guess what I want to do is fix it with a Flash. Firmware or software I dont have any idea...I guess firmware maybe. I dont need it unlocked...but to have no more Cingular stuff would be greta and so on. But for now just someone please tell me what all the FS...Main...etc is. I dont know what file to use. Someone please explain then may be I can use one. Do i need to backup my GDFS??? Do I need to flash main or fs or what...and which one AMERICA and so on and so on. Help so I can understand what is needed.

First of all use this 2 tutorials USB Flash Driver Installation - Guide - Top Sony Forums
XS++ 2.x Guide - Top Sony Forums and after you connect your phone with XS++ (use 3.1 Darwin) post log generated by XS here and than we can help you.

You will need 3 files for phone which is : MAIN , FS , CUSTPACK according to yours preferred language

Re: Need help with WSOD W600i, understanding how flashing works

First let me thank you Seamonkey? I was real tired last night of reading and trying to decide but decided not to decide because I didn't understand which files to use. Now I know I need FS, MAIN and CUSTPACK.

These are the firmware choices I have. What is the difference between them?

W600_R7CA017_FS_AMERICA_1_RED49======> What is FS? What does AMERICA Mean?
    W600_R7CA017_FS_AMERICA_2_RED49======> What does "2" Mean?
    W600_R7CA017_FS_CINGULAR_RED49======> What does "cingular" Mean?

    Dont know which to pick?

Same questions for the "MAIN" Files. What is MAIN? Whats the diff between Generic EE, NAM 1 EE and NAM 2 EE? What does NAM stand for? Which ones go with which above FS files?

    W600_R7CA017_MAIN_GENERIC_EE_RED49
    W600_R7CA017_MAIN_NAM_1_EE_RED49
    W600_R7CA017_MAIN_NAM_2_EE_RED49

Custpack? Ok which one will I need or want. None say United States or English?

K600i_CDA102375_101_R3A_Generic_APAC_1===> What is Generic and APAC?
K600i_CDA102375_1_R3A_Generic_EMEA_1 ====> Hwta is EMEA? use 1,2,3,4,5 etc? This is what I mean aboout understanding the files and what the differences are! I dont know what i'm flashing in other terms.

I did download XX++ 3.2 last night...dont use this version? I have to or should use 3.1 Darwin?

    Thanks in advance.

Use XS3.1 Darwin because 3.2 is beta and post log from XS++ and when XS++ recognize phone do GDFS backup (you never know)

Ok here is the log file from XX++. Just for your information, I had previously tried to flash this phone using instructions from Woton Server. I will add that whole log file after this one so as to give the complete picture of this phone and what has been done by me...good or bad. The flash failed to complete because it timed out getting some kind of key from the server I guess. i opened a ticket with Woton but no reply yet. I think from the posts on the web that Woton is not operating.....so I lost $10.00 bucks

The following is the log file from XX++ 3.1 Darwin:

Re: Need help with WSOD W600i, understanding how flashing works

    You can use:
    W600_R7CA017_MAIN_NAM_1_EE_RED49
    W600_R7CA017_FS_AMERICA_1_RED49
    W600i_CDA102453_120905_120905_Generic_Trade_USA_AM ERICA_1 , or

    W600_R7CA017_MAIN_GENERIC_EE_RED49
    W600_R7CA017_FS_AMERICA_1_RED49
    W600i_CDA102453_120905_120905_Generic_Trade_USA_AM ERICA_1 .
Follow the instructions from this guide: http://www.topsony.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7017 , points 1. and 2.
In the first case, you must have in the folder "rest" from "Setool" a file called "r7ca017_CXC1123106_NAM_1_EE" , in the second case "r7ca017_CXC1123106_GENERIC_EE".
If they aren't there, you must create them with the small "ssw2rest" from "make_rest" folder.

Re: Need help with WSOD W600i, understanding how flashing works

Ok I used xxii 3.1 Darwin to flash these files:
    W600_R7CA017_MAIN_NAM_1_EE_RED49
    W600_R7CA017_FS_AMERICA_1_RED49
    W600i_CDA102453_120905_120905_Generic_Trade_USA_AM ERICA_1.

They flashed but its taking forever to "Activate FileSystem" How long should it take? Its been 30 minutes and still waiting?

Re: Need help with WSOD W600i, understanding how flashing works

Ok, it took so long to Activate Filesystem that my comp stopped responding. So I unplugged my W600i and removed the Battery. Reinserted battery and started the phone. The WSOD is gone....but the phone would not work. I put my sim card in and it said something was wrong and to contact the provider or something like that. So I restarted my comp, turned off all unnessesary programs and am trying it again. Still its taking an aweful long time to "ACTIVATE FILESYSTEM". Is this normal?

Well, second try failed to "Activate Filesystem". Left it working ovenight and stil did not finish. System hanging! Started phone, walkman works but when sim card from my current phone is inserted it say "Configuration error please contact service provider'. Will try Setool tonight. Does anyone have any idea as to what is the problem? Maybe I should try Cingular files!
