Few questions before debranding a K770i via XS++

Hi there!

I'm totally new to this forum, despite being a Sony Ericsson users since 4 years from now. Recently I've bought a K770i (replacing my old K700.. :rolleyes:), TIM Italy branded.

Since some years ago I ended up with a currupted update of my good old K700 via SEUS (damned DSS station, maybe), now I'd like to follow strictly and excellent guides you have posted (and I've already read) to get my K770i debranded.

Some days ago I've connected the K770i via XS++ 3.2 just to see if it was functioning and it was, but I forgot to capture any log. For sure the phone was CID 52 and RED and the rest of info I can give you comes from the >*<<*< menu of the phone.. :rolleyes:

Despite the "SIMLOCK" term in the field, it *should* be a totally free phone (I'm using it with my own old SIM..)

Then, just to be sure that all the important actions are met, I recap what I thing still remain to be done:

1) I will need the 2 MAIN and FS fw files. It's not important to look for the same fw I have now; instead It's way better to look for the newest GENERIC_EUROPE_5 CID_52 firmware pack, right (I need Italian language)? So it should be this one: K770_R8BC004_FS_EUROPE_5_RED52 :o

2) I will need the custpack for GENERIC_EUROPE_5, right? Is it already available through XS++ or it is needed to download it also from here? In the site I can see this one: HB1-06_Gen_CDA102568_14_R8A_GENERIC_EUROPE_5 ..

3) I will backup by GDFS for be extra safe... No interest on other GDFS available on this site.. right? :rolleyes:

4) What about the EROM? Is it a sort of an "additional part" of the fw? Someone can explain it better? I can see that my phone has different fw and EROM versions. In the site I can just find this one: K770_RED_CID52_R3B025_EROM-FOTA_2007-06-14_07 and the version seems different from the fw above. No consequences on that, right?

5) I'm going to use a Vista pc for the update. I do know that that's is not a problem, but since the first and unique attempt to connect the phone was with a Win2000 pc (a different one), I'd like to know which Flash Driver would be better to install. Maybe the one attached to the XS++ sticky guide would be fine, wouldn't it? ;)

6) would any additional "customization" of the phone (icons, etc.) require a complete fw update? I hope no! Rather I do hope that a FSX copying action would be enough, right? I've seen that XS++ seems to hang with CID52 phones (like mine) and I encountered the same problem the other day. Any solution on that?

I'll thank anyone that will give me some advice on that 6 questions and will give me the chance to attempt this sort of action.. :rolleyes:

First of all don't use that XS++ 3.2 because it's beta - use XS++ 3.1 (Darwin)

4. For now - don't need that and if you be careful and follow tutorials everything will be OK

6. You don't have that problem with XS++ 3.1 and if you do all other things wright

All went OK!

Followed the excellent XS++ 3.1 guide (while interpreting something from other thread abut own_custpack, where to put it, etc... ::p ) and all went good.

Debranded *PERFECTLY*!

Then, what's on? ::p I suppose.. endless customizations...

To begin with, could someone kindly explain to me if EROM update could be useful or not?

Why should you update your EROM?

EROM = Extended ROM. This is the base part of the software which isn't flashed in normal update operations. It controls the flashing interface, the boot loader, etc.

You don`t gain anything.
