    k800 problem

Normally I am good with customising SE phones, I have a 2nd hand k750 that had brown firmware turned red then converted to w800 (since I couldn't find brown w800 firmware).
Anyway, I also have a silver k800 that I updated foolishly with SEUS, and ever since this update, only T Mobile (or virgin, since they are the same network) sim cards will work in it. Any other card it will turn on fine but it will say "emergency calls only" or "inactive sim" and an icon with a cross thru a phone will appear. The phone was never locked as far as I am aware. Also, it has changed the CID of the phone to 53 (oh, *swears loudly*) so now only FAR Manager can access it. I have tried many firmwares for k800 CID53 (from SE Life .:. Life in SE! ) and no matter what firmware or FS I use (I know I am meant to use Europe 2 FS and the GENERIC MAIN as I am in England) it still says "inactive sim". When checking the simlock, all padlocks are open, so I know the phone isn't locked. It is not barred as T Mobile (or virgin) sim cards work in it fine. From various searches on the net I have stuck with the rule that the language customisation must match the CDA of the FS, but even this won't work... It may well be that this phone came from another country before it went on the market in my local area and they used custom firmware on it to get around the network restrictions. I noticed that it didn't say "k800i" on the 'phone status', it just said "Model: MODEL (yes that's right, capital letters) and every time I used XS++ when it was still CID52 it said "IMEI name doesn't match GDFS name. IMEI: k800 GDFS: MODEL". Now I can't use anything with it accept Far Manager of course... so...
to sum up, here's my question. Are there any modified firmwares for CID53 k800 phones to get around the "inactive sim" in the UK networks? Otherwise I guess I will have to take it back to the market and ask them to reflash it for me themselves, or wait a few months before CID53 becomes more supported, or switch from O2 to T Mobile. It's a shame, I love this phone :(

    Re: k800 problem

That's what I've done. Using CID53 flash files (FS and MAIN) and FAR Manager says it is all successful, including putting the language customize.xml file in. I've tried all combinations of the FS, MAIN and all the customize.xml files. All goes on successfully according to Far Manager, it's just when I turn it on, it says "inactive sim" or "emergency calls only" yet I can use it for everything else- camera, music, storage. Just not for use as a PHONE (ringing, texting!). Maybe there's a setting in the EROM for allowed network bands, and as it's CID53 I can't do anything about it (I DO have a backup of the EROM from when it was a CID52, I just can't restore it as you can't change EROM on a CID53 yet!).

    Re: k800 problem

are you sure it was never locked? did you buy it in a store thats reliable? or did you buy a used one? a k800i cid52 can be unlocked with ease. but if you update with SEUS the lock will return. and reflashing it won't remove the simlock. also it happens that store's unlock the phones themselfes and the resell it (yes in some country's like the netherlands it is allowed to unlock phone's and sell them. this was highly popular with the Iphone btw) anyway it's indeed impossible to restore the eprom from CID52 now that it is CID53. the only thing you can do is waiting untill CID53 patching is free/possible

    Re: k800 problem

I've taken it back to the store and explained what's happened, and they said a lot of people have been put up to CID53 and ended up with re-locked phones lately, and they were very understanding. They are going to try and sort it out for me as they have good contacts (and one person who has links with SE).

    Re: k800 problem

They couldn't fix it, they told me the problem is in the GDFS. The phone indeed came from abroad and was reflashed to support UK networks. Upgrading undid that. I DO have a backup of the GDFS that I did before upgrading, however since it's CID53, I don't have programs that can restore it. UNLESS.. there does happen to be a new version of XS++ that only works in linux that can support CID53 (XS++ 4.1 beta). I have ubuntu-linux on my laptop, so... I wonder if I could restore the GDFS with that to fix it... but I don't know seeing as the GDFS was backed up when my phone was still CID52, would restoring it to the phone completely break it seeing as the phone is CID53 now?

Just take your GDFS on stick to service and they will do it for you (they told you if they can't do it)

    Re: k800 problem

I got it back now, and was told they had done their best. Yet when I checked it, I found that they had SOMEHOW managed to downgrade it back to CID52! They must have had one of those expensive boxes to do it. But for some reason it was locked to O2, as any other sim I had said "insert correct sim". Well, fair enough I AM on 02, but what if someone else borrows my phone and needs to use their own non-02 sim? So, I thought what the hell, upgrade it to k810i, this time using k810 cid52 flash files and NOT SE update! Applied the unlock patch via setool and... everything's back to normal. Now I just need to remember not to ever use SE update, and if I ever reflash, use CID52 files and re-unlock it via patch...
