Yes,

Main FsandCustom are specific.

FS must match Main.

Custom is region specific.

No they cannot. For example: you can NOT use CID49 firmware on a CID52 phone. And you can't downgrade CID either.

marn is right I flashed a w580i R8BE001 phone with R6BC002 MAIN for patching it and it is working fine :p

you can in some circumstance flash different main and fs but this will lead to some corruption usually in the language sectors. Both have to be the same CID.

Flashing with different CID firmware es called Cross-CID flashing

This operation is only supported by setool2lite in:
-DB2010 phones....Ej:Flash a K310 CID49 with W200 CID52 firmwares
Not supported at the inverse...
-DB2020 phones using quick acces patch (Only CID52)
Using quick acces patch you can cross-cid flash your DB2020
Ej:Flash with a CID53 FS your CID52 phone
