W880 able to call only network op. Dead or locked?

    Hello,
my unlocked/debranded w880i stopped to work properly yesterday.

Now whenever I try to make a call I get the 'no network' beeping noise.

I can't receive any call either - "phone currently switched off" message

However I'm able to make a call the network provider service centre of my SIM, though the voice quality is quite bad.

Any idea of what is going on?

    thanks

    aero

    Hello,

Can you provide a little more info about what happened please?

IE. After unlocking + debranding your phone, did it work? And what exactly happened "yesterday"?

I ask because I'd like to know if it EVER worked or not.

Is your SIM card okay? Does it work in other phones?(did you pay your bills on time?? :p )

Please try to provide enough info so that those who look into this have some info to work with.

Best of luck, and have a nice evening! :)

Hello Sarf , thanks for your reply

yes the W880 was working correctly, the SIM is fine, bills payed :)

when i inserted the SIM in a very old Sony i had again good reception and even more strangely if i would move 500mt away from my current location the W880 would again start working properly.

here's what I think happened: there was a thunderstorm and the 3G network must have gone down in my aerea, while the GSM still works.
That's why the old phone was working, it has no 3G.
Infact when I switched my W880 to 'GSM only' it started working properly again.

In synthesis: GSM + 3G would not work if the 3G is down, it would not siwtch automatically to GSM only.
a bit of a bug in the OS in my opinion

    best

framma. did this start happening before you flashed it or after? if its before its most probably a faulty phone or you dropped it and the reception part of the phone is damaged(happened to me, sent mine to the shop to get the part fixed) so the connection is very low which only allows you to make emergency calls. if it was after the flash, i actually don't know...does the phone work fine other than the calls?...maybe you should try reflash

    Good evening Aero, :)

I think your synopsis sounds very reasonable.

Sadly, I have actually encountered (a few times) where the options are not "intelligent" ie GSM + 3G literally mean both or none.

I dunno if reflashing your phone might alleviate this issue, but I might suggest reading up on more recent firmwares that may have been released for your phone.

Perhaps in the later releases(if any) the 3G AND GSM option has been adapted to [3G AND GSM] OR [GSM ONLY].

    Who knows?!

I suggest checking the MAIN and FS file versions you have and poke around on the forum to see what info you may find out about them.
And as usual there is also our good old friend Google... ;)

I hope you find what you are looking for!

Take care Aero, and best of luck! :)
