K790A -> Customize [ERROR], Unlock=[Y], Quadband=[Y]

Hello,

Well after reading far and wide, I'm 90% there! :)

I have successfully UNLOCKED, and made my K790a QUADBAND.

Wanting to put the icing on the cake after a bad day, I decided to try to DEBRAND my K790.

I WAS locked to Rogers and had the Rogers FS with their logos and other ugly stuff.

Using SETool2 Lite 1.11, I added

K790_R1JC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn

and afterwards(after unlocking, quadband, other patches etc.),

K790_R1JC002_FS_AMERICA_2_RED52.fbn

When I turned my K790 on afterwards, I got an error that there was a "Customization Error" and to contact my Service Provider. :(

From what I have been reading on TopSony, I apparently have to make some folders and a files structure/tree, and put some files in there.

I am not certain of what needs to be done.

I don't want anything fancy, or "unique".

All I want is to get rid of the Roger's branding... just a plain old NON-Rogers interface.

Can someone please advise me for the simplest way to do this? I thought uploading a new FS would do the trick, but it seems I'm wrong, and can't use the phone at this point. :confused:

I've looked/searched around in the forums, and basically found how to CUSTOMIZE the interface.
I just want it plain and "Unbranded"

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly in advance. :)

Remove SIM-lock patch generator - Top Sony Forums

1. Select phone model - K790.
2. Click Identify
3. Mark Bypass DB2020 security
4. Add Main ( K790_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn )
5. On MISC files add Quick Access patch.vkp
6. Click Flash hold "C" and plug USB cable.

After 3 - 4 min. Setool say to unplug cable, reinsert battery and click READY then again hold "C" and plug USB cable.

Then click NO to apply patch and wait ~ 20 min.

After all you have Quick Access patch and can apply patches (*.vkp)

1. Select phone model - K790.
2. Click Identify
3. Mark Use "quick access" patch
4. On MISC files add Remove_SIM_lock_K790_R6BC002.vkp
5. Click Write SCRIPT

NO - to apply patch

Okay, I've uploaded/flashed the three files:

1. K790_R6BC002_FS_AMERICA_2_RED52.fbn
2. K790_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_EV_RED52.mbn
3. HB1-06_Generic_CDA102568_107_R4A_GENERIC_AMERICA_2.zip

The flash was a success, however NOW, it says I have no network coverage!!! :eek:

I looked in the "System Menu", and I still seem to have Quadband access, but is network locked(expected).

I'm ready to unlock the phone, but as per the instructions, I turned my phone back on and it DID NOT start up normally, because it can't find any networks!!!

I'm located in Canada, and my GSM network is Rogers.

:(

What now?!?! :(

I unlocked it again, and as per the "Service Menu" it is indeed unlocked, however I still get the same error that there is "No Network Coverage" :eek:

I doubt it's a GDFS issue, but I really don't know what to do now.

And I find it odd that it still shows that it is Quadband. I figure, if I wiped the MAIN and the FS, then the patch I applied waay in the beginning to make it Quadband should not be there.

Any ideas?? :confused:

Any help is appreciated. It all seems to have gone to hell after I wanted to debrand. :(

Okay, so all is fine now! :)

I thought to myself, "Hmmmn... I tried changing and patching all the seemingly relevant files (MAIN, FS), but nothing seems to happen, so what am I overlooking?"

In digging a little deeper, I saw that the GDFS file WAS actually a significant factor in all of the unlocking/debranding etc!!

I re-wrote my GDFS file to my phone, and voila! Networks are detected again, phone is unlocked + quadband + debranded. :D

I guess in the stress of all that was going on with my phone (and in my home the past few days), my analytical abilities went down.

Either way, thanks to all who tried to help!
