    VoIP in SE mobile phones...

    Hi guys,

I am surprised that there are only a very few mobile phones on todays mobile market that support WLAN and VoIP. I think of it as such an important feature. Remember when WAP came up? Noone wanted it but after a short while even the cheapest phone had this stupid WAP-browser. But really useful functions like WLAN and VoIP are rarely to find.

I feel it is a pity that phone manufacturers are just the slaves of the network providers because that is what the situation is and why so few phones have WLAN and VoIP buit in.

    Greets,

    WOnken

Re: VoIP in SE mobile phones...

There are SIP stacks for many phones available to use VOIP, but most firmware has them taken out.

For example the N95 has an SIP stack, but it is disabled by most providers (Orange, Vodafone...). Howevere there are ways around that and you can enable them.

But you are right it is a shame that there are such few that have SIP stacks and allow Voip. Did you know that Orange and Vodafone state in their contractual agreements for data, that data is not to be used for voip?? I think that is well harsh, no one should be allowed to control what you use your data traffic for.

Does anyone knwo if an SIP stack has been written in form of a JAVA application? That could potentially enable voip in almost every phone.

I think if we need VoIP, we dont need SE phone anymore. Just buy a PSP with mic, using Skype and that's all
