Flashing with different firmware

Can someone tell me what could happen if I flash a SE phone using a firmware that is different from the one originally installed?

Noting hapen if you use right one. If you have K550 and use firmware for W610 its right. Bad for you if you use software for W880 or K800 your phone dont start. (Sorry for my bad english)

I have a W810i with the following firmware: R4ED001_RED49 (region: Europe 2). The TopSony download area doesn't include a R4ED001_RED49 firmware folder. I wonder if I could use R4EA031_RED49 or R4EK001_RED49?

Yes, you can. You must only look that main, filesystem and custom file are for your phone and the same firmware version ( R4EA031_RED49 ).

I used W810_R4EK001_RED49 and it worked perfectly! It is great to know this kind of stuff, because most tutorials do not mention it.

You must check whether the phone you want the firmware has the same abilities with the one you want to upgrade..otherwise you might end up with problems

Hi, stathis... I actually used a different firmware without problems, but it was also a W810i firmware.

I understood from your message that it might be possible to flash a telephone using firmware from other model. Is that correct?

don't flash a w850 with w810 firmware it would be a very silly thing to do and your phone would be a brick, the w810 is db2010 & the w850 is db2020.

Thanks, number 1. What about using firmware for another db2020 walkman phone? Like W880? Would that be ok?

I`ve flashed V630 with K610 firmware, it`s OK and I haven`t Vodaphone brand...
