Is there any way to add the sleep mode clock function to the W580i?
I know its not an option on the phone but perhaps it can be enabled using FAR or a vkp patch?
Any ideas?
Thanks :)

to MENU.ML
Would something like this work for a K550i flashed to W610i?
Itsnt SleepMode Clock Avalaible As A Function. Its In My K790. It Can Be Found In Menu>Settings>Display>Sleep Mode Clock>On/Off
i just tried it on my k610@w660 and it's great! it will probably work on w580i too..my sister has a w580i and as soon i will try it i will let you know..after you edit the menu.ml by adding the small part of code then go to display settings and you will see an option at the bottom which will say Sleep Clock On/Off!!
Awesome Payne4Life. Can this be done with XS++ or did you use FAR? I guess I need to get an original menu.ml file to add the code. Forgive my ignorance, but I'm guessing the only way to do this is to copy the file from my phone using FAR or can I navigate the FS file? Which method did you use?
basically i don't use far so i can't tell u anything about this..from the time that, unfortunately,xs++ 3.1 does not allow downloading files from phone to pc, i downloaded an extracted FS from 4shared.com and took the original MENU.ML from inside it.Then edited it and uploaded it with xs++ 3.1 .when u upload a file with xs that has the same name and extention as the one that's already in the phone,xs replaces it. That's all! I would recomend u do the same, unless u are familiar with far and know how to use it(download files to pc etc)..for any questions,i'm here..
Ok seems straight forward enough. Honestly, I'd rather use XS++ to FAR also from what I've read. I've never actually toyed with either. I flashed my phone using Wotanserver but I think I'm ready to dive in and use the big boy tools, haha.
One last question, and forgive my ignorance once again. Once you have the FS file downloaded, how do you extract it and take the MENU.ML file from it? Can you just navigate the FS file through Windows or do you use another tool?
Thanks in advance :)
I got the original menu.ml right on my website :)

Great! MENU.ML isn't firmware specific is it? I have R8BA024 firmware on my w580i
I still need to know how to extract MENU.ML, where can I find it?
you may download an already extracted fs from 4shared.com so you won't need to extract files yourself..after you download it just open the rar file and go to tpa/preset/system/menu
I read up a little on the forum. Supposedly you can use a program called Main2Raw to convert the FS to a raw format and THEN use SEFSTool or something to convert Raw to Windows map format. There could be an easier way to do it by now. But as Payne4Life said, you can probably just get a pre-extracted FS online.
Can someone answer: Is the MENU.ML file specific to each firmware version? If I use an extracted R6BC002 firmware to get MENU.ML will it work with my R8BA024 firmware?
Thx
Didn't work for me. =(
The clock showed for 5s and then the screen went black as usual.
If you flashed your K550 to a W610 then I think you would need the MENU.ML for a W610. As far as the software knows, your phone is now a W610. Using the MENU.ML for a K550 could definitely cause problems I would imagine...
Payne4life, just to verify. Once your phone goes into sleep mode (screen goes blank), the sleep mode clock is visible on the screen and stays that way? Does the missed call symbol and text message symbol show up on there also?
I have a w580 and modified my menu.ml file with the sleep mode clock option. It appears on the Settings->Display menu with an On/Off option but regardless the option you select, the clock still appears on sleep mode.
Ok now I've got it working, but its soooo dim that its impossible to see unless you're in direct sunlight. My W600i was black text with a light grey background. This is black text on a really really really dark, almost black background.
Is this your experience?
I have 580i. I just push +/- button, and I see the sleep clock.
By sleep mode clock we mean a clock that shows up with no buttons being pressed, it shows up on the screen with no back light. This is a feature present on many other SE phones but was excluded from the W580i for some reason. The +/- shows the clock with backlight.
It's the type of LCD panel they've used. Screens like that of the K800i, K790a, and W800i are much more reflective (you'll see they're grey when they're off) whereas screens like those on the W580i are much less reflective (black when off), so they're almost illegible without the backlight (but they are more vivid when the backlight is on).
Since the sleep mode clock would be useless with this type of LCD, Sony Ericsson figured they might as well disable the feature.
I'd have to agree with you 100%. The only way I can see possible to make this work is to turn the back light on all the time which really isn't a solution because battery life would be horrible.
I think this is a pretty much closed issue now. Thank you all for your help and insight.
Hummmm, thanks. That pretty much convinces me it's not worth the trouble.
And moreover, an allblack sleepmode screen is a lot less battery-consuming. =)
