adding language to w580i
I want to flash my w580i with chinese language support. I just like to know if I can mix and match the Main and FS. like use
W580_R8BA024_MAIN_GENERIC_LA_RED52
W580_R8BA024_FS_CHINA_RED52
together or have the two has to be the same?
W580_R8BA024_MAIN_CHINA_LA_RED52
W580_R8BA024_FS_CHINA_RED52

if you want chinese language support you have to have the China main. Chinese is a non alphabetic language and as far as i have experienced this language on SE phones, they need to have the MAIN_CHINA to desplay the characters. Other than that, i think it just needs to have the language installed on the phone and the customize.xml file to be edited to include it. Its usually easier though to just go through and flash with everything CHINA though.

where did you get the chinese language flash files? i need them and i still need 20 odd posts before i wan download from topsony..... but just to clarify... because chinese is not alphabet based, i have to get either a china or hong kong based flash and custom pack (3 files total?)
thanks,
K.

guess I will go with the flashing with both being China Main and FS. just to be safe...hehe...
P.S. the reason that I'm asking if you can mix and match main and fs is that I also like to add French language support to the phone after I have flashed it with Chinese system. can it be done?? if so how would I go able doing it??.....
-
Well its deffinitly a lot easier to flash all three at the same time, but technically all you need is to just flash the main with either like you said CHINA_MAIN or TAIWAN_MAIN or HONG_KONG_MAIN and thats it. Then you would just need to place the .lng and .t9 chinese files onto your phone and edit the customize.xml. I wrote a whole tutorial on how to do it here how to add languages to your phone - Top Sony Forums you can then also do it that way to add your french language as well. but like i said, you will deffinitly need the CHINA_MAIN for the chinese language and it doesn't matter at all the main for the other languages.

hello everyone, I just finish flashed my w580i everything went great, can't be any easier :-) I used setool2lite to do the flash with W580_R8BA024_MAIN_CHINA_LA_RED52 W580_R8BA024_FS_CHINA_RED52 and a Chinese customize.xml without any glitch. now only if I can get my hands on a French language pack then I'm all set...:-) and flashing didn't take long, only about 6 mins and then I went to Product support - - Sony Ericsson to get all the setting for the text msg and internet set done, this is the most easy part. after everything is set to the Rogers setting and that's it. now I can do all the things with the phone as I can before and plus now I also can use mp3, m4a format as my ringtones it's great. used it about a day now, haven't had any problem come up yet, can I'm hopping it stay that way. hehehe.... anyone also thinking of doing the flash to your phone, i can tell you it's not as scary as I thought it would be. it's fairly easy just follow the tut to the word and you'll be fine... wish you all the best luck flashing....;-)

Is your phone locked or unlocked? I just debranded my phone with a generic main, and a hong kong fs and custom file and can view chinese now, but can't type chinese characters. I am thinking about flashing it with a hong kong main, fs, and custom file, but i am scared that it won't take my roger's sim card since it is locked.
-
My phone is still locked under rogers. I flashed my phone few times now try to find the best combo, and I haven't run in to any problem yet. from what I read and understand flashing and you sim card are to different things. they shouldn't be interfering with each-other. I now using a Taiwan main, fs, and hong kong custom file. I didn't have any problem with sim card at all or with the phone. so i'm sure it will be ok for you too...

good to hear ur flashing went so well, just curious since somehow... it sounds like you have access to many more firmwares then me.... have you come across any set of files that silences the shutter tone? i know its possible... but just not sure where or how....
-
I guess should flash both main and fs .
-
@C.Blue to silences the shutter sound is fairly easy. all you need is XS++ 3.0 here is how I did it.
start XS++ 3.0 click on connect and connect your phone by holding the "c" and plug in the cable. choose "FSX" at the bottom and click "Start FSX" wait about a min or two. and you will see the tree list in the "Filesystem Explorer" window goto "tpa\preset\system\sound" at the right you will see a list of files, that's all the sound clip for everything in your phone. now look for file name "camerashutter#.3gp" and "camerashutter#_rer.3gp" there should be few of them. depends how many shutter sound you have in your phone where should be equal number of both of the files. first shutter sound doesn't have a number at the end of the file name, then it's 2,3, and so on. now what I did was delete the last one on the list. that way is easier to remember which one have no sound.
here is what I done. I have 4 shutter sounds in my phone, so I deleted "camerashutter4.3gp" and "camerashutter4_rer.3gp" from the phone. after I deleted the two files, click "Shutdown" this is very important, other wise it can break your phone. after that unplug your phone and remove your battery and put it back again. start your phone, now goto you camera and click "more" then go down to "shutter sound" and choose the one you deleted, in my case the 4th one. and woolaa...no more sound...and remember to turn off your "key sound" as will...
hope this will help you. good luck customizing.......;)

You can also just modify the customize.xml file to do this for you.
To do this, open up notepad (or wordpad doesn't really matter). Inside of notepad have it say:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<customization>
<camera>
<suppress-camera-sound>true</suppress-camera-sound>
</camera>
</customization>
Then save the file as customize_upgrade.xml it must be a .xml file. Don't name it customize_upgrade.xml and have it a .txt extension. It must be .xml extension. Then just upload the file to tpa\preset\custom on your phone (you can use far or xs++ or however you like to upload files to you phone) and then just restart your phone. The nice thing about this way is all you have to do is put your phone in silent mode (which you would do anyways with leon21ca's way to not hear the key sounds) and when you take pictures it will be silent. You also can then hear the sound if it doesn't matter at times when the phone isn't in silent mode plus you get to keep all the different shutter sounds (dono if it even matters to you but the option will still be there)
-
I thought that would do it too... but somehow.. it doesn't work... after deleting the 2 3gp files it worked, obviously, but it seems somewhat brute.... silencing it by deleting the sounds... but thank you both for your input on this..... but if anybody else knows something like maybe firmware R8 doesn't allow silencing of shutter tones maybe? i dunno...
=)
