Warranty? Yeah, right...

I have a Z530. It's the second one: the first died after trying some tricks with a hacked version of russian Opera Mini 1.2. It was replaced under warranty. I think it could've been revived by re-flashing the firmware but they replaced it. And took over 10 days to do it.

So, I got a new one, it worked fine. On day 3 I open it up and it clicks... and it no longer holds open, WTF?! So, I take it back to service, and they say it can't be repaired because i must have hit it. "Lo has de haber abierto muy fuerte" was the wording used.

Hell with it, since they said my warranty was void already, I came home and pried it open. The spring works like the one on retractile pens, so you would have to break away the joint before you would damage it. The whole thing is held by a metal ring that broke, I used a loop of wire to replace it. I thought it wouldn't last a day but it's been fine for over a year. I also replaced the spring and used a softer one.

I had never had any problems with any SE phone, but I really got ticked off with that. It makes you think again about how much your warranty is worth.

BTW I live in Mexico and this was on the SE service center at Polanco. It's the only authorized service center in Mexico city. They are lame at identifying actual defects from user damage: i had a K300 dropped and the mic died, and they repaired it.

Anywhere else with warranty problems? Anyone knows how to complain to SE?

I didn`t ever use waranty, because i didn`t need it. Every phone that i did buy , works fine and i gave it to my grandmother and she still use it.

Shoot an email to official SE and explain your situation, particularly target the service center in question regarding about their "assumptions" in respect to your phone and tell them they didn't bother to inspect your set carefully to determine the cause of the problem... you as a user of an SE product should not have to suffer for their complacency. (just dont tell them you split the set open because that is an excuse for them to say you voided your warranty on purpose regardless whether you did it before or after the incident)

i bought SE branded phone (at my operators shop) & since then (for more than 2 weeks now) it’s being repaired… I didn’t have nay hardware problems, I complained about a software flaw, & I guess they don’t know how to repair it (flash menus didn’t work, I couldn’t change them)… I will probably change my operator, because this is getting really annoying; I bought a new phone!

I think with flashing you can fix this ( software problems ).

For SE, warranty is almost not needed - except for smartphones, since they run on different platforms and are more susceptible to flashing "mishaps" :D

XS++ or Wotan/DVT can fix most firmware related problems. As for hardware, there are plenty of spare parts on the net.

i had some strange problem with k750, lens cover switch didn't work, so i took it to service. they held it for about a month. since then my phone worked fine

can't say warranty was best, but it was fine

But they needed a long time to fix. My friend got his phone back in 4 or 5 days.

But how about the W580i? I hear sony replaces the keypad(breaks easily) for free. I wonder how many times they can replace it. i heard that phone's keypad is FRAIL

Until you don`t have any warranty more. When your phone is under warranty, then they fix free, but when you don`t have any warranty, then you must pay when they fix.

Sony Ericsson's warranty repair service is below par, at least in the USA. I've sent my K800i into the service center about half a dozen times only to have them scratch the phone up or not do anything to it and ship it back to me.

Try sending a letter to corporate, see what they have to say about it.

a couple of months ago, I bought myself a SE S500i, like you can guess, my keypad broke and I brought the phone back to SE and they replaced it for free, this process came back for another two times, so they fixed my keypad for tree times ! then my keypad broke again and I was sick of it so I asked for another phone (so no S500i or W580i) and I got my money back and got a serious discount on my next phone, it became the SE W880i and since then I had no problems anymore :)
so I think they handled pretty good with me..
