De branding a W890i
Hi everybody, I hope someone can help me. I have a Vodafone branded SE W890i (UK version) and I am trying to remove the branding. I have used an A2 CDA file generator to generate a "customise-upgrade.XML" file and added the resulting file to the phone via A2 uploader. Then when using SEUS it all goes well telling me that there is an update available until the update gets to the following point, ..."preparing computer for software update", then the message appears..."unable to install or start phone software update components" and the update stops. What am I doing wrong? Any help accepted.
Best regards, Martin.

Re: De branding a W890i
Why you are loosing time with seus, check Cid on your phone(probably 52) and download main generic firmware,FS file for your region(all files have English)but you can use Central Europe or SE Europe and download customization with same name as FS file and do it.

Re: De branding a W890i
Thanks for reply, The CID is 52PAF:1 (whatever that means!). From where do I download the main generic firmware FS file? And when what do I do with it please, you are talking to someone who needs step by step instructions!!!
Best regards, Martin.

Also the link in the tutorial to find "A2uploader" is invalid, file is not there, it is available in downloads, software, A2uploader, version v5 seems to be the one required.
I look forward to your reply.

Re: De branding a W890i
Hi here is an update to my attempts to debrand a SE W890i.
Vodafone provided the info to unlock the phone from their network for free.
I have been successful at last in debranding my phone.
The the files/programs used are available on this site.
I have used the files labelled R1EA030 and not R1EA033 for the main file.
I used R1EA030 FS Western Europe and not R1EA033 FS Western Europe.
K8501 1201-0077 Generic We seems to work as the MISC file in ZIP form.
A2uploader Version 5 (software) is thought to be a bad program by Norton Internet Security, but use it anyway.
On my phone (SE W890i), it is hold down "2+5" and not "C".
Time taken was about 15 minutes.
The Tutioial as mentioned above is excellent.
Many thanks to "Boysie" for his prompt replies and his help.
Best regards to all,
Martin.

Re: De branding a W890i
Well glad you sorted it but the error: HDR block not accepted,error:101D is normally associated with a corrupted header of the firmware.
Oh and btw, Antivirus software will always detect A2uploader as a virus. It isn't. the_laser uses some sneaky techniques to protect the loaders and av software think its a virus. So it's always a good idea to add A2uploader.exe to your av's exceptions list or simply turn it off before running the exe.

Re: De branding a W890i
Hi again, can you help me again, I have successfully debranded the SE W890i today. I then went back to Sony Ericcson Update service (SEUS) buy have ended back at square one with trying to update to the latest software. SEUS tells me that a newer software version (R1FA035) is available to update my version (R1EA030). Yet I get the message that the software cannot be updated when SEUS tries to prepare the computer for updating. I cannot find version R1FA035 anywhere on this site (apologies if I have missed it).
So my question is how do I update to the latest software please?
Best regards, Martin.

Re: De branding a W890i
You are definitely the man for phone problems. I wish I had just a 10th of the knowledge that you obviously posess.
The files (listed above) did the trick. I now have an unlocked, unbranded and up to date phone.
Once again, many thanks for you attention and effort in directing me to the right places.
Best regards, Martin.

No problem, glad it's sorted :)

Re: De branding a W890i
Hi Boysie once again, I wonder if I may impose on your generosity once again. Following the success in unbranding my W890i, I thought I might do the same with my K800i, at present locked to and branded Vodafone.
Using A2uploader Version 5 I get the following result when using "identify" ...
ChipID 9900
EMP protocol 0301
Phone State RETAIL
Flash CID 0053
FLID FAIL
then no more.
Is it possible to unlock and debrand this K800i and if it is possible, what files do I need please?
Do i need to get it unlocked first?
Relying on your help once again,
Best regards, Martin.

Re: De branding a W890i
Hi again, my apologies for not replying sooner, I have been busy on other projects.
Do I need to unlock the K800i before debranding it, or will the action of debranding remove the lock to Vodafone?
Best regards, Martin.
-
Re: De branding a W890i
No. Debranding/flashing firmware will not remove the simlock. To remove the simlock for free you will need a Vodafone simcard and read a "DB2020 anycid" patching guide. If you don't have a voda sim then it is paid unlock only.

Re: De branding a W890i
Hi, I now have an unlocked and debranded K800i thanks to your help and advice.
Vodafone gave me the unlock code over the phone!
It all went exactly as expected and without any problems.
Many thanks,
Martin.

It is A2 platform so use A2 uploader software.

Re: De branding a W890i
Hi everyone I found this thread while searching and was the exact same question I had (debranding the w890i). It's been very straightforward following boysie's excellent instructions however I'm not able to download the R1FA035 FS Western Europe from Live Sony, and I can't find it anywhere else - can anyone please help?
-
Re: De branding a W890i
Um ok, I figured it out. For anyone else in the same position click Register at the top and not Register when it asks you after you try to download the file, because for some reason that registers you to Spanish Live Sony forums or something... So just Register from the button at the top!

Re: De branding a W890i
Unfortunately, I've come unstuck again. I've got those files and A2 Uploader 5 and I'm following the tutorial. I click Flash and hold 2+5 and insert the USB end but the message in A2 is still 'Hold C and insert USB cable' does that just stay there while it does its stuff or is some other message supposed to come up to confirm you've done it properly? I stopped it and tried it with C as well but the message is still there.
When I do put the USB in I have to select Phone Mode, USB Mode etc on my phone... perhaps I have to select a particular one?
-
Re: De branding a W890i
Ok I've figured it out. Just for the sake of anyone else reading this in my position... make sure you turn your phone off before inserting the USB cable!
