how to add languages to your phone

After having looked around this forum and seeing so many threads about people wondering how to do this as well as myself having wondered how to do this, I figure I would let you know how its done. I have done this and have it completely working on a w810i, so I would figure it would work similarly on other phones as well.

NOTE: Its always smart to keep a copy of all the files that you will be changing someplace on your pc so that you can undo everything if you encountered a problem.

1) you will need to break into the phone using FAR. If you don't know how to do this, there are tuts for this everywhere.

2) you will need to navigate to tpa/preset/system/language on your phone using FAR.

3) you will need to copy over your .t9 and .lng files for the language(s) that you wish to add.

4) you will then need to delete the lng.lst and lng.dat files that are also in the tpa/preset/system/language directory. (the phone should rewrite these with the new languages when you restart it)

5) you will need to find and edit the allowed_language.txt to allow your desired languages.
eg. if you wanted to add english, you would start with a list of languages like "zs, zh," in the file, and you would just need to edit english in like so "zs, zh, en,"

6) Next would be to now find and edit the customize.xml file which can be found in tpa/preset/custom. Here you will again need to be adding the language.

7) last step is the easiest, restart your phone and enjoy!

I have noticed that sometimes the phone will be quite picky, so make sure that the .t9 and .lng files of the language you are trying to add are from the same phone. I have only used them from the same firmware version so I cannot say if it will or willnot work from other versions. I have heard some say that the .t9 is the only that is firmware dependent and others say both are, I cannot say as I have not tried either from different firmwares. Also the .t9 and .lng filenames should be in lowercase letters. The phone may have issues if there not, so for example it should be en.t9 rather than EN.T9, EN.t9, or en.T9

If your looking for the language files, you can either find them on this site in the download section, or you can do it manually if you can get a hold of the MAIN not the FS and extract it from that.

It is a good how to... if you don`t understand you really need to read very very much... no have easier way to explain how to put a language into your phone....so READ!!! Yeah you need to know to use XS++ and FAR with SEFP.. so if you don`t know how to use this 2 programs please search in the forum or in the google.

Does is change the whole menu to a different language? or it just add a support for a new languages, the ability to read and write sms in foreign language?

Will this work for k510i ?
Does Far plugin support k510 ??
if I have FW with no arabic lang support , and then flash my k510
with europe FW (Same FW version as that of my phone) , can I add arabic lang by this method to my flashed k510 ??

how do i extract the .lng and .t9 files from the MAIN file? I could only do it for the FS file using gextract and sefstool. Even then I could only find en.t9 from the China and APAC FS for Z550. The rest are all .lng.

first adenali, it depends on if you have the .t9 or the .lng files added. It is possible depending on which ones you added to have either the phone language to be changed (the .lng file) or the writing dictionary (.t9).

second donnygg, yea I must be dyslexic or something, your completely right, its the FS that you need and not the main. and I use main2raw rather than gextract but whatever you use is fine. And don't always expect there to be the .t9 for all the languages. If you really need it, you can always go threw more FS if needed. They are posted here after all.

You wont be able to get yourself the Japanese language. They don't make that language for phones like ours, only phones released in Japan since they are different phones. You can try adding Chinese language to your phone since the two languages are very similar, they use many of the same kanji characters with the exception of Japanese also using their other writtings such as hiragana and katakana

R4zv1 You must flash emea_4 fs.

Unfortunately this doesn't work with CID 52 :(

R4zv1 if you looked at the "Languages Description" page, you can see under the w850 that the langauge you want is in the MEDITERR, ORANGE_GEN, and VFE_LIVE_3 FS. Just download one of those for your phone and extract using main2raw and SEFStool4 to get the langauge file and you can then do what i originally stated in my first post to place the language in your phone.

I got a Rogers (Canadian network) branded W810i and I can't seem to add any languages to my phone. (So far I have tried Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese) I followed the walkthough closely for several times now, and it still wouldnt work. I read on some other forums that in order to install a "non-alphabetic" language you haveto use another FW/MAIN, is this correct?

I have the language files and know excatly how to add language to phones. PM me if you want. I'll put them on my personal web site later.

@tc_terence, I have actually heard of something along this line as well. I have also heard people having trouble adding both Simplified and Traditional at the same time. I dono why this is, but I hear its a problem. I honestly cannot tell you if you need to change your FW though since mine came with APAC 1 and so it automatically came with simplified, so I have never had the need to add any of these "non-alphabetic" languages. If you decide to change your FW, let us know for future ref. for people trying to do the same thing.

I can't find them enywhere . I have downloaded the europe2 FS.fbn from topsony but can't extract the tr.t9 and tr.lng from that using main2 raw and sefstool

There aren't differences between uploading t9 or all fs. So I think you must upload all fs.

Yes, certainly! I would let you guys know if I get it to work.
I will do some more research into this field, and possibly somehow flash the fw and main to an asian regioned one. If It works, I will start a new thread with a detailed tutorial.

how to add language on a db2020 phone?????

i ve many times tried to put a languege to K800i, but it dosn't work, the phone does not see the new languge and when i put only one file(.t9) it has a new languege for SMS. Don't know why it doesn t work, but when I make the same wite the w810i and it works.
The langugefiles are extracted from the FS file with the same firmware, but they both still doesn't work:(

from now on, you should always upgrade firmware by yourself, if you want to keep the languages you've added. SEUS will update your phone as it was before...

Try to flash full FS, not only TR.LNG and TR.T9 - that must work!

The language are for menu or text writing??

If you flash Main and FS files with the firmware that includes the language you want - you'll have them both (the menu and writing language).

Now, I have mine with simplified chinese, and if I add traditional chinese to the phone, will the input method, zhu-in, also come with it?

FAR manager is out of place for me, it's not in order. I don't know how to fix it

u can only add languages when u reflash

yes u can do that(reflash) with the setool2 lite 1.07 its easy!

this is really helpful but can you put more detail on it??? i really need to put spanish t9 on my phone, do i need to put the whole fs or do i just extract the language that i need?

I need to add spanish t9 on my w610i but when i connect it to far it says: ERROR: UNABLE TO OPEN DEVICE EPIUSB CHECK FOR EPIUSB.SYS DRIVER INSTALLED. what does this mean? how can i fix it cuz it really sucks that i can't write in spanish. PLEASE HELP!!!!

blah - the reason why they haven't released any FW with Japanese on it is because they don't use these phones in Japan. It would be completely pointless for them to make a FW for japanese if its only for people like yourself and not a whole country or region.

peymann609 - you can either use the steps i have stated in the first post of this thread, or you can just flash your phone with a new FS. Both should work. Either way your going to have to use a FS that has farsi on it. (M EAST N AFR or S_ASIA_LEVAN FS should do the trick. Just make sure that they are for your R1KG001 firmware.)

phantom13 - If I remember correctly that was the error you get if you haven't installed the usb drivers. I know they are floating around somewhere but not exactly sure. Or you can always get it by using the Sony Ericsson Update Suite.
