Unbranding my W850i

Hello, this is my first post on TopSony. This website is just incredible, I didn't think such a community would exist! :cool:
So first thank you for giving us such great tools.

Now my questions ;)
I just bought a Vodafone branded W850i. (Love this phone :D)
Software revision: R1ED001 060831 2039 CXC1250201_VODAFONE_CY
Model: AAD-3022021-BV

I'd like to unbrand my phone, so I'd like to know:
- Do I have to replace the firmware with R1ED001 (as I have now) or can I use the newest R1JG001_RED52 ?
- What FS should I choose between: CENT_EUROPE, EUROPE_1, EUROPE_2, EUROPE_3, EUROPE_4 or EUROPE_5 ? (I live in Belgium)
- I like Vodafone's Orbit theme flash menu :p But I know it will be gone after debranding. So is there a way to restore it after the process?

You can use any firmware, but that's if you unbranded it using DaVinci, or any other similar things.

I really don't know about this, but you could choose whatever it contains your language.

You can restore it by flashing the swf file of orbit to the phone's firmware file.

Well... I was planning to try to unbrand it with PhoneXS, do you recommend that I use DaVinci rather?
To be honest I'm a little scared about this process, I really don't want to screw up my phone... :confused:

I think EUROPE_5 is the one you will want.

does anybody know a tutorial for xs++?

I have 2 other important questions ;)
(I try to keep them in this post)

- What are the differences between the firmware versions (besides CID encoding which is getting stronger with each release)? Do they fix important bugs or is it just details that change?
Knowing this could help me make my choice between R1GB001 (CID49), R1GB001 (CID51) and R1KG001 (CID52)... Please help me choose!

- If I upgrade my phone with CID52 software, this means I won't be able to modify it afterwards, since it's impossible to brute force CID52 (for now)?

i have a w850 with the same vodafone firmware
if i debrand it will the buttons be in different possitions?
ive seen an unbranded one and the button layout is slightly different to mine

If you are using XS++ DO NOT FLASH FILESYSTEM (FS) FILE!!! If you do that, you will need to finalize and so far, no tool (including XS++) can't access the FS for free. If you don't finalize, you will end up with the famous "Configuration error...".
@barry7000. The menu layout (button positions) are affected by the menu.ml in the filesystem. If you have CID 51, you can only flash MAIN which will change the icons, but not the layout.

that is only for CID52?
CID49 and CID51 are ok to flash with XS++?

Ok thanks for the tip, I'll stick with R1GB001 (CID49) then.
I hope I won't have problems with this update (finalize, etc.)... I really don't want to screw up my phone :s

W810 is CID49. You can use any firmware, but you'll need to bruteforce to insert the flash themes or to do any other customization.

Please, don't post more messages like this.

The thread starter asked about W850 which is more difficult to change and modify than older phones like the w800. You have lots of tutorials on how to do that, but there are none or very few for the w850. So before you start posting questions "how to debrand my xxx", try using search.

Anyway, to debrand a w800, flash correct MAIN, FS and custom pack to your phone.

hi. i have w850 too, and was thinking of debranding myself too, but i think im gonna go with wotan to debrand and update fw.. i have cid49, but scared what can go wrong :)

but i put flash themes with xs++ right? hope smth cant go wrong with that :/

When I used from XS ++ programme hung after 30 minutes and I threw on phonexs alpha 3 and me made after 3 hours. Of course CID49 ;)

hm.. will read some more and see what ill do..
and since i have vodafone branded phone, my call button is left under arrow and my end call button is right, under c..

so, after i debrand it, will the button i use for calls now be internet button and end call button for dialing calls?
since now i use vodasoft, and after i will use generic soft.. so im kinda confused now :confused:

The "call" button will be changed with the "Wap Browser" and the "hang up" will be changed with the "activity" button.

Anyways, I got my W850 on Friday, as expected, BUT XS++ doesn't support it even though it's CID51 :(. Well, I bought a credit with davinciteam, so I'm gonna use that, and I'll be able to access my FS (no-brute trick)!

but i got one question again :) if i put vodafone software from wotan on it, is it again branded? or there are just vodafone icons on my mobile like it is now?
maybe its a stupid Q, sorry if it is...

Vodafone SW (from anywhere) contains their icons but also their restrictions so I suggest using generic FW otherwise there's not much point in flashing you phone...

[EDIT] m8... I can't do anything with my phone until TopSony uploads W850i_CDA102568_02 otherwise I won't have a proper custom pack...:mad:

Yes. U can debrand free your W850i. Use phonexs

There are a lot of tutorials on how to flash with xs++. Use search. Basically, it's like this: Flash MAIN + FS, use bruteforce to customize (may take up to 5 hrs)

I found a universal custom pack (why are they in the K800's section:confused: ) and finally debranded and customized my phone. + I uploaded a few funky flash themes :D .

sorry for the question : ijust wanted to know if finalizing is not required for k700files so i can flash the new firmware, or can i flash the new fimware without finalizing? i just want to upgrade the firmware not to unlock the phone so as to use diffrent operator, thanks

If you bought it new from a reseller and it has no brand then it's full unlocked.
If you bought it used contact original seller. Else you can verify th unlock status with "identify" funtion of Setool2 lite.
