How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
Hi. I have a Rogers w580i branded phone and obviously, the company disabled the flash menus on mine. I want to use the flash menu however without having to flash/de-brand my phone and I know this is possible because I've searched it through the internet and people claim that it is. I've also searched on this thread already and unfortunately it confused the heck out of me :p Can someone kindly give me a step-by-step tutorial on how to enable the flash menu without de-branding it? I don't really want to de-brand my phone yet until it ran out of its one-year warranty in case something happen. Thanks a lot.

Well like I said I don't want to debrand my phone. If you flash, wouldn't that debranding the phone?
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
Yeah, but if your operator has blocked flash menu in your phone (branded it in that way) , that means if you try to unlock it , you simply debrand you phone ;)
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
Yes, but I've checked the other thread that was in here. Somebody was able to modify the customize.xml or something to enable the flash menu without actually debranding his/her phone. He didn't fully specify on how to do that step-by-step though that's why I'm asking if someone can kindly give me that information on how to do it.

it looks like from here that you are going to wait that 1 year to pass. where did you find that informations, why don't you ask them?

Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
I found a file that can enable Flash Menu in the phone without flashing it. Anyway, placeing it in FS probably means debranding anyway ^.^
The file was tested on w910i (DB3150) and w980i. I've attached so you can check this out ;) It changes CDA also so if anyone wants to use it, i'd prefer to edit CDA previously (<cda-number>1201-0116</cda-number>). Hope it helps someway. :D
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
The easiest way to enable the flash desktop is to make use of the customize_upgrade.xml

That's actually what I want to do. To just edit that without debranding it but I don't know how to or where to start. That's basically what I'm asking if someone can put a step-by-step tutorial on how to do it :) Thanks.
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
I really would prefer a step by step post of how to edit that file... I don't even know how to get in my phone system files ;)
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
Why can't ya download files in XS++ ? :S
I would like to download my Customize.xml incase the upgrade doesnt work :S.
Or can anyone tell if this works with w610 mobiles? DB2020 :S. Help? :)
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
Use jdflasher for copying files from phone
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
Well, i don't understand using jdflasher and far ...
But i have done a GDFS backup , could'nt i just delete my Customize.xml , upload the customize_upgrade.xml (rename it to customize.xml(?)), and if it didn't work, i run the gdfs backup recovery?
Thanks for quick reply :)
Re: How to enable flash menu on a branded w580i
I ran into a similar problem w/ an AT&T branded w580. I got flash menus to work by creating a customize_upgrade.xml with the following:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<customization>
<flash-desktop>
<settings reg-path="/apps/flash-desktop">
<enabled>true</enabled>
</settings>
</flash-desktop>
<mmi>
<settings>
<enable-flash-desktop>true</enable-flash-desktop>
</settings>
</mmi>
</customization>
Make sure the customize_upgrade.xml is in the same folder as the customize.xml (tpa/preset/custom/). Also I didn't have to do a master reset or anything after turning the phone on, but I would back up everything just in case!
